In life we are faced with obstacles, such as, depression, low self esteem, feeling like an outcast, etc., that divert us for living the joyous and peaceful life that God has intend for us. Obstacles can stem from being raised in a dysfunctional environment, abandonment, or abuse, etc., but to me obstacles are life giants.
These ugly giants take resident in our inner soul and make every attempt to take control of our life and we feel like our emotions are on a daily roller coaster ride. We fight hard to ignore them as they rear up in our emotions and cause us to say or do things that are our totally out of character. Then we sit back, and wish,”if I could only conquer these evil giants”. And, the good news is; you can. So put on your boxing gloves and prepare to win your boxing match.
As I look back over my life, my giants were low self esteem, and the feeling of abandonment by my biological parents. I fought these emotions well into my adulthood, and sometimes I became so overwhelmed that I would just weep for hours. Then one day, I decided “enough is enough” and I had to fight my giants.
Since I was not strong enough to conquer my giants thus far in life, I knew that I need to take heed to the words from a well cited scripture: “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:10-12)
As I put on my boxing gloves (which was the word of God), I was determined through my faith and trust in God. I was going to stump down every giant in my life by relying on the power that God had instilled in me. I had no fear on taking on such a challenge because I knew that God would be with me where ever I go, and He will never leave me nor forsake me. And through every trial I would face on my journey, He would strengthen me in my weakness.
Through prayer, perseverance and mediating on God’s word daily. I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel of conquering my giants of low self esteem and the feeling of abandonment. And, now I am able to live the joyous and peaceful live that God has intended for me; however, I know I will face other giants in life but “I am more than a conquer.”
