Phil isn’t tone deaf. In fact, he can hold a tune with the best of them and even enjoys a little harmony. But his voice punches the air with a unique intensity, resonating several decibels above everyone else’s. It’s one of those voices that has magnetic powers - when you first hear it, you can’t help but can sneak a glance around the room to find the person who’s making it. But what I love about Phil is the way he stands proud, singing with gusto and passion to His Lord. He pays no heed to all the attention he attracts and if he catches your eye, you’ll be blessed with a wink of his.
Jesse just loves to sing! Humpty Dumpty, This Little Piggy Went to Market, Baa Baa Black Sheep. He’ll attempt just about any nursery rhyme he can manage to remember. At the tender age of two, Jesse has discovered singing with much delight. Some nights, long after he’s been tucked into bed, you can hear him serenading his teddies with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. You can’t help but smile.
Third Day have also struck a chord deep within me. I remember tingling the first time I listened to one of their albums. The lyrics, the music, the voice of Mac Powell so unexpectedly transported me to that beautiful place where nothing else exists but me and my God. As I replayed the CD over and over, I remember riding on the wings of joy.
To think something so simple can be so deeply fulfilling. Soul quenching! God really treated us with the gift of song, didn’t he?
