The soldier stood in an erect stance,
His residence had been at the manse,
But now he's in Iraq.
Making sacrifices that advance the cause of freedom,
Now smelling a pungent fragrance,
From poor living conditions called slums,
He eyed the stranger askance.
He thought to himself often,
Will I return home in a coffin,
Killed by an Iraqi cad
Like so many of my comrades.
He thought every minute,
I can never drop my guard,
Then he heard his radio transmit,
Soldier move your post to the rail yard.
Yes sir, was his reply,
As he looked up to the eastern sky,
Father, he said, this is my plea,
Please let us make this move safely,
This man represents all our troops
Soldiers living in special groups,
This particular poem,
Written for them so far away from home,
Yeshua left his home above,
He brought us a message of love,
God the father has a plan,
Salvation for every man.
If you are born again,
You can ascertain,
Know with certainty,
You are in a soldier's terrain.
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
forward into battle see his banners go!
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.
At the sign of triumph Satan's host doth flee;
on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
but the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
we have Christ's own promise, and that cannot fail.
Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,
this through countless ages men and angels sing.
