There once was a cat who lived in a barn.
Who didn’t grow up playing with yarn.
This cat was tough and fairly scrappy.
He loved his home and was very happy.
His name was Green, but his fur was yellow.
Characteristically charming and typically mellow.
Green had, however, one little vice.
Which, unfortunately, wasn’t quite nice.
He often caught mice by the tail.
To watch them struggle and wail.
The mice would beg and plead for life.
But Green would merely laugh at their strife.
When he would tire of watching them fight.
He would toss them up and into the night.
Where they fell--he never knew.
Nor did he care where to they flew.
For some reason this gave Green such glee.
Watching them twist and then setting them free.
One lazy morning while Green was napping,
somewhere in the barn he heard a tapping.
Being a cat, Green was curious.
(A trait that sometimes made him furious).
Not one to go against the laws,
Green got up and stretched his paws.
Ever so cautiously, Green looked around,
then leapt to the rafters in search of the sound.
Green didn’t slink because he was scared,
but instinctively knew to be prepared.
The sound of the beat was persistent.
Getting louder and louder, no longer distant.
When, at last, he crossed the last beam,
What Green saw was out of a dream.
He gave himself a prick with his claw.
He was awake, but filled with awe.
Green had never seen something so weird
He felt the moment should be revered.
Are you wondering what he saw from his perch?
It seems some mice were building a church!
Green’s very next question was not “How?” but, “Why?”
And he jumped down from the rafters ever so spry.
The mice recognized Green and gave a small cry
Dreading the thought of being lobbed in the sky.
Quickly he told them he meant no harm.
But why were they building a church on the farm?
What they told him filled him with shame
For taunting the mice with his strange little game.
The mice were so thankful that they were not killed
And to praise God for His blessing a church they would build.
One little mouse said something so sincere,
the words continued to ring in Green’s ear.
Sometimes things won’t go the way you plan
But trust in the One who was before time began.
Jesus has your best interests at heart
In all things praise Him and never depart.
His promises can be trusted and His words are wise.
He knows where you are--even when flying through the skies.
Sometimes life can seem out of control.
Give your cares to Jesus who paid the toll.
This doesn’t mean your life will be without plight.
Look at me, I just sailed through the night.
But knowing the Lord is there, on which you can lean,
is the best thing ever! Did you know that Green?
Green didn’t know, but he was glad he did now!
And he couldn’t wait to go share with the cow.
