THE RED DAY



She was seeing red as she rolled out of bed on that fall October morning. The vision stuck with her, as her body laboriously brought her to her feet, and to her new day.

Red was just another name for temper. Why had she allowed it to take home in her heart and mind?

George had not meant to scar her heart with his parting words. He simply had stopped loving her. He couldn’t just say that, and blurt it out so callously. So, instead he turned it all on her. She was not measuring up. She had done it all wrong, and there was no making it right. He had said his goodbye.

Lisa sees the red, and mulls it all day, taking it into her soul. Love turned inside out, leaving Lisa brokenhearted, angry, bitter, and lost.

Up to now, Jesus had just been someone she heard about. He always sounded like a nice enough man. Lisa contemplates, what was it He had done? Oh yes, He went to the cross, and had shed His blood. Lisa sees the red, but it is not the anger that she feels, nor sees the red rings under her eyes from the tears shed. Instead, she sees the blood, His blood that covers her sins of anger and bitterness. She senses the heart within Him, filled with everlasting love for her.

Lisa releases George and receives Jesus. Her future is in Jesus hands. The ugly red is now beautiful and powerful.

The red day being spent, Lisa slides back between the covers of her bed. She falls asleep filled with peace, knowing that she is loved, and that the red blood of Jesus covers all her sins.

This is a very good story--I hope you consider writing the full 750 words next time! That will give you time to explore your character more fully, and to give a more developed plot to your entry.

Be careful of switching from past to present tense and back again.

I enjoyed reading this, and look forward to more from you in future challenges!
