Before I learned of a new opportunity.
I listened as the crowd grew,
And then I cried: “Jesus have mercy on me.”
Some said I should hold my peace
And stay calm in the presence of such a man
But from my blindness I sought release,
If I could see, I would have ran.
But Jesus stood and called for me.
And asked “What can I do for you?”
I said I wanted to be able to see.
And Jesus made my desire true.
He said that my faith has made me whole.
And my new desire was to follow him.
And serving the Master was my goal
Since my eyes were no longer dim.
And what sights I saw as Jesus led the way!
I saw flowers, and ferns and all forms of loveliness
Through the light of the glorious day
I was released from darkness.
And we traveled from Jericho to Bethany
When Jesus sent two for a colt.
And we were amazed Jesus traveled freely
On that donkey without one jolt.
The colors I saw as the garments were spread
And the loud Hosannas that the people sang
Echoed through my ears and eyes as we were led
Through Jerusalem, and then I felt a quick pang.
For in less than one week the songs and cheers
Would turn into trials and tears.
The one who never stole, sinned or lied
Would be the one they crucified.
Oh I wished then that I had no eyes
To see the anguish of my Lord
I could only with the faithful stand by
As his life-blood was out-poured.
But three days later, he would rise again
Appearing to ten, and then the eleven.
And I am told there were five hundred
Who saw him risen from the dead.
Jesus said “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”
I am so thankful that He gave sight to me.
For eye has not seen, nor ear heard.
The many wonders of our LORD.
