It looks right past the bricks and mortar of those four walls that we’ve bought.
It teaches us to look much deeper to a place where we are free.
Then challenges us to look within so that we can “truly” see.
The home that I grew up in is still around today.
It contains a lot of memories which I recall along the way.
I was one of seven children and shared my cloths and bed.
It was a time when things were tough and you could not get ahead.
But mom and dad would do their best to see our needs were met.
And daily dad would share some scripture; for this was a sure bet.
At the time we weren’t so willing to listen to his verse.
We thought it was some kind of torture, maybe just a curse.
This all happened at the table where we all sat down to eat.
The times we shared were pure and simple and mostly couldn’t be beat.
Foundation had been planted firmly in my heart along the way.
I remember then the conversation when we talked with God each day.
Fast foreword to the present and you’ll see my wife and me.
Living in our newest home beside the city sea.
We do not hold on tightly for the Lord has moved us some.
We try to listen closely for we want to in His will be plumb.
With children grown and scattered to both near and far away.
We find this big home useful when some people want to stay.
For their lives are in transition trying to do the work of God.
We are just a pit stop on the road that they have trod.
So when I think of family and the home where we reside.
I think about God’s people who in Him will abide.
They are my bigger family and our home is up above.
We will have a great reunion when we are united in His love.
Are you part of this family? Will you call Heaven your home?
Do you know the Son of God and with Him do you roam?
Have you let Christ in your heart and peace in Him have found?
For all who have we can surely say that we are “Homeward Bound”.

I like how you've told about your childhood home and how you've tried to continue the values you learned.
