In light of today’s current line up of fantasy films being produced, The Golden Compass, may seem to be just another one of many. However, the production of this particular movie, has the devil’s scheme written all over it. This film is based on a trilogy, disturbingly called His Dark Files. The author is a self-proclaimed atheist who seems to have a blatant agenda for turning children away from God. Each book brings that point closer. While the first book may seem innocent enough, by the second and third books, the plot turns toward an actual war against God and people of the church are depicted as moronic and controlling. Research on the movie and especially the books will illuminate these facts. The plot may sound radical but the truly scary part is that the movie itself is toned down. The film makers have admitted to that. What I fear is that parents who are not equipped with this knowledge will take their children to see this movie, the children will be entranced with the fantastical, and then they will turn to the books, and an innocent, searching mind will now have a seed of distrust beginning to form.

What better way for Satan to reach the next generation. We have enough overt filth bombarding our children through television, the music industry and video games that parents are beginning to take a stand. He had to go a different route, slip it in via a pretty package that blends right in with what’s already out there. I also find interesting that this came after the success of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The devil hates to be outdone.

In this day in age, it is extremely important for Christians and especially parents to be educated about what their children are being introduced to. We can not trust the fact that just because something is marketed toward children that it is edifying or even innocent. This movie is not the only example. Even the Disney channel is loaded with wizardry, magical themes, sexual content and rebellion. I am not trying to be an extremist but in today’s society, we must fight against the norm and the majority which actually seeks to undermine parents or any sort of authority at all. Remember, Satan has come disguised as an angel of light. We need to prayerfully apply Ephesians 6:11- 18 and be on guard to protect our children against an influx of sources whose main goal is to destroy the next army of God. It is not too late to expose the wicked and stand up for what we know to be right.
