One perfect day, especially chosen by God, in an early hour of the morning, our family was blessed with one precious child. At that moment, that instant in time, I became a grandmother.
My life has been full and happy. A faithful husband, three beautiful children, my relationship with God, these have blended together to create much sweetness. If I were to describe the blessings of life as a dessert with all the precious moments being the cream, grandchildren would have to be the cherries on top of the cream! It is as though God stood back and proudly observed the work of his hands and then said, “One more thing...some cherries for the top!” And then I was a grandmother.
So, this is an anniversary for me: A day I forget. I forget that I ever was anything other than a grandmother. I forget that I already bought a gazillion puzzles, dollies, and toys. She needs one more, doesn’t she? I forget that it will cost a small fortune to develop all of those pictures I took, but we need to preserve those memories, don’t we? I forget that I am tired or that I have many “pressing responsibilities” that require my time. I forget that I am a “grown-up”. Instead, I color, finger paint, or crawl through our tunnel. We are lions, or tigers, or bears, O my! We sing and dance or “get dizzy”. We go outside and play ball or swing “high up to the sky apple pie!”
This is the anniversary of the day I began remember to forget. This is the day I celebrate being a grandmother.
