TITLE SHEPHERD THE FLOCK OF GOD
Recently we had a new neighbor move into the next house and we were amazed at the smooth transition. The day before the big move several youngsters came to clean up the premises, they did a great job on the lawn and flowerbeds. The next morning the trucks and moving company personnel did their share and left. A group of volunteers from the church came by after lunch to help with the unpacking. I went over with some cookies and beverages just to say, ‘Welcome to the neighborhood.” I was really taken aback to see the progress in setting up the new house. There was so much of co-operation and co-ordination that everything was put in place so quickly. The Pastor of their church had organized the whole project and he was there working with them. He just blended in with the group and you would never guess that he would preach the sermon the next day.
You normally would not expect the church Pastor to soil his hands doing yard work or opening boxes for people in the congregation. But this Pastor had his motto as, ‘Love in action.” He just shows his people that he is there not just to feed the flock but also to take care of them. This family thrives on the love and fellowship of their church members. Everyone tries to follows the Pastor’s example and be more Christ like in their daily lives. What an example and what a testimony!
Paul in the epistles of Timothy and Titus has written out clearly what the qualifications of a Pastor or Elder in the church should be. Thank God for godly men who shoulder their responsibilities and shepherd the flock of God, entrusted to them. They teach the Word of God without deviations from the truth. Peter in chapter 5, of the 1st epistle exhorts the Pastors to serve willingly and faithfully according to the will of God. There is a reward, the crown of glory, awaiting when the Chief Shepherd comes.
We need to be careful when we hear sermons that deviate from God’s word and give emphasis to psychology and fund raising. Human knowledge and social eloquent speeches could work on our emotions. But spiritual life changing sermons need to be Christ centered and based on the Bible. When we choose a Pastor to shepherd the flock let us pray much and ask the Lord to guide us. We need men who are filled by the Holy Spirit and called of God to care for His Flock. Remember, our duty is to pray for them.
