Sheila McKenzie just turned forty-five and at times felt stodgy and middle-aged, often felt complacent with her job as dental assistant to Dr. Forbes, was recently divorced from Fred McKenzie and on this day, felt happy to be alive and free. But, like many of us, Sheila was still searching for something better, something that would make her feel complete.
It looked like August was going to be another scorching month and so Sheila felt privildged working in a very cool and comfortable dental office.
It was an early Monday morning when she arrived at Dr. Forbes’s office. As always, she was the first to arrive and quickly began her cleaning and preparing ritual. She always began at the back of the office and then worked her way toward the front and then to the Visitor’s Room.
She was just finishing up the Visitor’s Room when the phone rang.
She answered, “Good morning. This is Dr. Forbes’s office, Sheila speaking. May I help you?”
“Yes, you can. If you’re Sheila McKenzie, I have something to tell you. Do you have an Aunt Kramer?”
“Why yes, I do? Is something wrong?”
“Well, yes and no. I’m Elsa Kramer’s attorney and I need to inform you that she died last Saturday and that I need for you to attend a meeting, a reading of her will.”
Sheila was dumbfounded because Aunt Kramer had always been healthy and very active. And, she truly loved and cared for her.
She spoke hesitantly, “Why, yes…I, ah….I can come. When is the reading of the will?”
“The reading of the will is tomorrow at two. Can you make it?”
“Yes, I’ll tell Dr. Forbes. I don’t see a problem. I’ll be there.”
The meeting was held in an old but ornate office building—1102 East Park Avenue. Sheila was the last to arrive and after everyone was seated, the reading began…
“To my beloved husband, Ted Kramer, I live the bulk of my estate of 20 million and our mansion.”
The list continued until it came to Sheila. The attorney then said, “And to my lovely niece, Sheila McKenzie, I leave to her what she needs more than money or possessions and that precious gift can be found in the box that will be handed to her, once I’m gone. Bless you Sheila and may this gift bring you happiness, forever!”
The box was handed to Sheila and she opened it cautiously and with some trepidation. As she opened the box, she saw immediately the happiness that her Aunt promised—a very large and beautiful gold pendant that opened to the words, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God…”
Directly opposite of the words was a gorgeous hologram of all the great things that would soon be coming her way, once she began seeking the kingdom of God.
Now, that's what I call great!
