I Cor.: 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. KJV
The peace of God that passes all understanding. That is the peace I want. Only Jesus can give that peace. As He said in the scripture quoted above, His peace He gives us, not as the world gives it. The world gives a temporary peace that is not peace at all, but a semblance of peace. The peace the world has to offer is a false peace that does not last. It is based on what man can do for you and man usually expects something in return. God’s peace is unconditional and free from any expectations of something received in turn.
Unbelievers do not understand the peace of God. They have peace when there is money in their pocket or money in the bank; when they have riches in monetary value. The peace only God can give is a peace of the soul, eternal peace knowing that when we leave this world we will go to be with Him in Heaven. When we lose our loved ones in death, we will see them in Heaven someday if they have received Salvation. The peace of this world is nothing in comparison to that.
The peace that comes from knowing God as Savior is a peace He gives when we are given a bad report from the doctors, telling us we have a terminal illness or that we will need surgery. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I had the peace of God. Normally I would be in a state of constant worry and not wanting to go through radiation. But from the start, I never experienced that kind of distress. I was at peace, the peace only He can give.
When my husband was to undergo triple bypass heart surgery, I was amazed at the peace I felt. There was no worry that he wouldn’t make it. I just had a peace about it. My son told me I had to be strong for Dad. So, I prayed and asked God to make me strong so I wouldn’t be weeping when I went in to see him before his surgery. I would normally have been a wreck. But I went in to see him and never shed one tear. That is the peace of God. That is personal peace. The peace of God that passes all understanding.
Phil. 4:7—And the peace of God that passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. KJV
