There was a time in my life when the nudging of the Holy Spirit would prompt me to give away “things” that I valued or liked. Some items were easier to let go of than others. My answer was insufficient for those questioning why I gave what I did; this added pressure to the mixture of my emotions at every request of the Lord. By His grace, obedience won over being understood.
With the cupboard wide open, I glanced up at a prized garage sale find, a square pedestal cake plate made of pressed glass. As I set it on the counter I silently wondered why the Lord hadn’t assigned it a new home. Seconds after that thought I heard a loud “clap” like thunder; before me was the plate in two pieces.
I was almost afraid to move—or breathe. Shaking deep inside I knew this meant something, but what? The answer would come later that night at church.
A small group of us were responding to a friend’s birthday present request of prayer and words of encouragement. While listening for Diane, I heard for me, “I WILL BREAK WHAT YOU CANNOT”.
Maybe the Lord spoke those words in my kitchen, but all I heard was thunder. What I do know for sure is, He is true to His Word. He must break all that I esteem or hold higher than Him if He is to be at home in my heart.
“Thus says the Lord; Heaven is My throne; and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house would you build for Me? And what kind can be My resting-place? [Acts 17:24.]’
.
“For all these things My hand has made, and so all these things have come into being [by and for Me], says the Lord, But this is the man to whom I will look and have regard; he who is humble and of a broken or wounded spirit, and who trembles at my word and reveres My commands. [John 4:24.] Isaiah 66:1-2’ Amplified
He continues to call me to fall upon the Rock [Matt.21:44], to choose His will over my own. I wish I could say I always say yes to Him, but I don’t; yet still He reminds me, “I WILL BREAK WHAT YOU CANNOT.”
