As crocuses peak through the snow,
The warmth of the soil makes them grow.
Their brave little roots
Push up tender shoots;
They hanker for springtime to show.
These flowers now push through the snow.
Spring’s promise keeps doubting in tow.
While watching snow flee
And earth become free,
Their petals turn cheerfully yellow.
As word spreads to tulips below,
Spring’s beckoning warmth whispers low,
“Come on, sleepy heads.
Get out of your beds.
You’re missing my beautiful show.”
The bulbs feel the nurturing glow
That nudges them warmly to go.
“No more shall we sleep.
It’s time that we keep
Our promise to bloom and to grow.”
Like flowers, we mortals too know
That God has ordained us to grow,
To shake from sin’s hold
That keeps our hearts cold,
To turn from our sorrow and woe.
For winter that rules down below
Must yield to the spring, as we know.
No more shall we see
Sin’s harsh dormancy,
But Christ’s reign eternally glow
