The happiness felt when someone says my words touched them brings a joy beyond compare. But I can't take credit. If I do have a gift, it's from Jesus. If some of my words touched someone I believe they are hearing what Jesus knew they needed to hear. However, I must do my part and listen to what I feel he's calling me to create.
Another of the challenges is when I put my whole being into a manuscript and receive 100 or 200 rejections. I admit, at times I have wondered if I'm just kidding myself in thinking a traditional publisher will publish my book. I know the odds and they're not good.Yet my agent believes in me and Paulist Press was going to publish Daily Reflections With Mother Teresa, but the order wouldn't allow me to use her quotes. Standard Publishing was on the fence for along time with one of my books but decided not to publish it. So, I have come close.
If I was giving advice to a new writer I would say, write what you love, and always think of the reader.Yes, the challenges are many, yet the satisfaction of seeing your completed work is very satisying. To be able to possibly connect with readers in this unique way is worth any challenges that may come up. Then one glorious day you may hear," Yes, we would like to publish your book!"
