Through Dr. Bagetti…
“I know why your brain’s blocked—
It’s filled with spaghetti.”
“Is that why I ripped pages
To toss like confetti?”
“Mais Oui, your distractions
Reduce thoughts to fractions.”
“Look at your cerebrum;
The x-ray is clear;
Brain waves for cooking
Have infected your ear.
Your mind’s clogged with ‘to do’ lists.
A case is most severe.”
“Too many expectations
Halt all inspiration.”
The image was hopeless,
Trapped on a plateau.
Could I cure this disease,
Clear trails for word-flow?
Days of simple writing
Seem a thousand years ago.
Despite diagnosis
That writing looked bleak,
I grabbed the first pen,
Aimed to try this technique;
I scribbled out blockage
All burdens of the week.
With a pen I cleared noise
From raising four boys.
Unraveling the sounds
That ting-tingled my ears—
The ping-pong like quarrels
That end in ten year-old’s tears.
My pen danced and stress disappears.
The field at their ball games
Became hills painted green.
From the noodles I’d boil,
Came a king’s fine cuisine.
My son splashed in freckles
Turned a prince at thirteen.
My writer’s block ended
With God’s revelation;
Life’s crazy moments
Are the best inspiration.
