She opened up to Matthew 6:21 and read “For where your heart is there will be your treasure also.” Jan pondered on what God was trying to say to her. After thinking about it for a few minutes a thought came to her. I am worrying about what I pack in my luggage for a short trip. He tells me not to worry about anything. I remind myself that He is always in control of my situation as long as I will listen to Him. He is always aware of it even if I don’t listen well. “But there is something more here that He wants me to understand.”
“I am so focused on this trip that I am worrying too much. I’m sure glad I won’t have to pack my luggage before I go to heaven! Besides, you can’t take anything from this earth to heaven a piece of luggage. That’s a relief! THAT’S IT!”
Right now my heart is so focused on things of this earth that I’ve forgotten the most important thing. I have a mansion awaiting me with new clothing He will give my new body. I will have many riches awaiting me there so I won’t have to be concerned whether I have my checks along or a credit card, etc. That is where my heart needs to be focused on every moment of every day. On this vacation I will probably bring back some souvenirs. But in heaven I will receive treasures when I arrive. God has more in store for me than I can give to myself.
“Alas,” she sighed, “I suppose I had better go finish packing for this trip. But I am going to do it with the right attitude this time and thank Him for this opportunity and keep my eternal destination and what awaits me there.” She spent a moment praising God for this insight and asking Him for guidance on this trip as well as ‘peace of mind’ as she packed. Things went much better and she found herself singing and whistling a joyful noise to the Lord.
When things get you busy, as we all experience, stop to remind yourself of where your true treasure lies and that you needn’t worry about tomorrow. Learn from yesterday, enjoy today and be excited about your future in heaven. Others will notice this joy and together we can make an impact on this world when we allow Him to control our actions. We will also experience much more peace and calmness in our busy lives, being more thankful for what we do have.
“For where your heart is there will be your treasure also.”
(Mt. 6:21, NIV)
