I lived through some of the darkest of times
When my world became so black
That all I wished for was an end
An end that would take me out of my lack
I prayed to the Lord every day
To save my soul from the depth of the pit I was in
To open my eyes and let me see
The colors of a rainbow he drew for me
There is no other way to explain this darkness
But to have been there yourself
With no hope of ever seeing a day of light
Let alone see anything else
I never lost the love of God
He was there every step of my way
Sometimes I wonder if I have truly come
Out of that darkness into the light of day
Each time I travel to the pain of my past
I feel the darkness draw around me
I feel the intensity of its power
As long as I hang onto the love of Jesus
I know the light can overcome any darkness
From anywhere or anyone
There are those who ridicule me when I expose the truth
Of the darkness that I see wherever I look
Jesus instructed me to do this on my life path
To give others a chance to change
To see themselves and what they took
If I had my life to do over again
I wouldn’t change a thing
Not even the most painful places I have been
If I follow Jesus he will always lead me
Through the darkness to His everlasting Light
Which He has painted within my sight
