The spring flowers have blossomed
on branch, stem and vine.
The rains have come and
the skies have deepened from
palest white to azure blue.
The birds have remembered their songs.
All nature is alive again.
Summer has worn through with
High School Graduations,
Wedding bells and kisses new
and visits to the beach that are
always too far apart and too few.
Autumn has finished with a blaze of
harvest colors as a final remembrance.
Across the hill crests, down by the river banks
and along every street, lane and avenue,
the rainbows of gold, crimson and tangerine
blanket the earth, like so many
multicolored, patch worked quilts.
Winter blows in putting everything to bed,
the flowers, trees, and ever winding vines;
The bears, foxes, possums and the
occasional lost wild turkey.
Then snow comes with its glittering white blanket.
The ponds, lakes and rivers become solidified
shapes seemingly overnight,
Rain becomes sleet and turns barren trees, bushes
and bird baths into magical fairytale things.
And everything is so quiet.
Until Cory, or Maggie or Matthew discover,
the new ice skates, sled, or skis
all wrapped up under the Christmas Tree.
