And humour? Gracious, don’t forget about the stories and the tales, especially about those comfortably couched between her generation and yours. My one grandmother had the sweetest laugh, which tinkled in the most delightful din, and the other was so quick witted that you practically had to run just to keep up. There are literally decades of jokes and humorous tales which could keep one entertained for hours. There must be a reason LOL is two acronyms.
Now don’t forget all the accolades the Bible bestows upon its faithful. Consider Lois who was credited with having been an instrument of God in her grandson’s life. Sarah was no spring chicken when God used her to be the matriarch of countless millions. There is also the fact that we have a job for life guiding the younger women. You know what? They will still be younger when I’m ninety and they are seventy. Think about it, I can always be useful!
Now, I’m sure each gray hair will be earned, and maybe even named, but they form a crown of glory and denote wisdom and honour. And even though my arms will tremble, my legs will bend, and my family may THINK I can’t hear them, my head and my heart can bow in prayer, my words can be used to edify grace, and maybe, just maybe, my family will rise up and call me blessed.
Of course, if I’m a little old lady, that may mean I will be married to a little old man; and we all know how fun they can be. I may be privileged to see the antics of great-grandchildren, and not be required to keep up with them, just to love them. I may live in a home for the aged, but be surrounded by friends, and not have to get down on my knees to scrub the floor.
The way I see it, little old ladies sprinkle life with sugar and spice, and know how to bring joy to those around. They are a fountain of wisdom, giving direction, love and hope freely. Though time takes its toll, they can be mightily used of God. Yep, someday, I want to be a little old lady.
