It really won’t take long,
I admit I’m not real proud
Of living life all wrong.
You see back in my youth
Folks said I was too wild,
But ma and pa said, “Shucks,
He’s just a spirited child.”
I didn’t have no boundaries,
Some said I just ran free.
But ma and pa said, “Fooey,
Just let our youngin’ be.”
Well all too soon I growed
Like a weed in humid heat,
Me and school--we was at odds--
Got my learnin’ on the streets.
And then one day it happened
Like many said it would,
A pretty young gal came along
And made me over good.
She taught me all the things I missed
While I was ditchin’ school,
She made me feel important
And she stressed the Golden Rule.
The Good Book and my darlin’
Helped make a brand new man.
My dedicated bride said,
“God always has a plan.”
I got me a G.E.D.
And a trade school education.
My inborn gifts just sprang to life,
That’s my wife’s interpretation.
Folks in town say I’ve changed,
And I say, “That’s a fact.
The good Lord sent an angel
To get my life on track.”
Before I surrendered life
I really wasn’t whole,
But afterwards He filled me up
And fed my starving soul.
