Mr. Monopoly waived his thimble to let his objection to the quick notice of the meeting be known. “We simply must be given more time before these rules meetings are pulled together all willy-nilly. I could not track down the racecar to bring a complete set to the table. Perhaps a more organized game like Sequence could be put in charge of calling meetings.”
“Duly noted, Mr. Monopoly; I will also issue a statement to the other board members to check for any extra parts, and I am certain your racecar will be returned promptly.” Mrs. Scrabble grabbed her letters to help her jot a quick note. “Now, if there is nothing else we will get this meeting started. “
The Chess board made a loud thwack to clear its pawns and jumped in. “Madam President, I would like to once again remind the board that they are acting without proper kingship.”
Mrs. Scrabble let her I roll off the table. “Do we need to go through this every time Chess master? We are an elected board, not a monarchy. You need to call off your knights; they are scaring the younger games.”
The Chess master looked around at the other games, challenging anyone to argue with him until his eyes met the long lashes of the Parcheesi queen. His checkered squares turned pink and he quickly dropped his challenge. Calling out a checkmate he nodded to the president, “As you wish, Mrs. Scrabble.”
“Well then, the meeting of the Board of Rules for all Board Games will officially come to order. As you know we have one major agenda item today. We have to make a decision on whether to amend the rules. For years we have gotten by with our rules as they were written, but . . . Yes, Ms. Scarlett, are you speaking for Clue today?”
“I am, and we want everyone to know that we will be happy to take on the task of figuring out who killed the old rules.”
“Thank you for your kind offer, Ms. Scarlett, but no one killed the rules, it’s just that . . . Yes, Trivial Pursuit. Can I help you?”
“Kind lady, we have come up with questions to help those who don’t know why we are here.”
“If I could just finish, we could spell it out without having to resort to questions or even charades.”
Grabbing its pie wheels Trivial Pursuit slunk back in a huff. Pictionary put away its pencils.
“Now there is no need to get mad before we even begin. Let’s try this again. We are meeting today to look at a proposed change to rule number one. We all know that this rule states that with no exceptions games are to wait until they are played and they cannot play themselves. We have a motion to suspend this rule and allow the games to play together without waiting for our humans.”
At this Trouble started popping and Sorry hid under the table, unable to take the pressure. After a few moments of uncomfortable silence, Mr. Yahtzee shook his cup. “It seems to me that we really only have one choice here. The truth is we are tired of sitting on the shelf waiting to be taken out every few months. In fact I don’t think that Tiddlywinks over there has been taken down in over a year. I know that we games always play by the rules. In fact we have rarely changed the rules on all our years of playing games, but it is time to roll the dice and take a chance! Look, we can all tell the truth, that we are all bored board games or we can do nothing. But if we take the dare and stand up for our game given rights, we can have freedom!”
Dice were flown freely and chips were raining down as a chorus of board games shouted their approval. Mrs. Scrabble scrambled to put her letters back in a row. When the chaos died down, the president of the board of Rules declared the rules to be officially changed and forevermore there was not a bored board game to be had.
