But I renounced His name.
Miserable and wretched. So weak and full of fear. As pitiless as trash.
My agony’s severe.
I knew He was the Christ. As God revealed to me. In His own hour of need.
I fled to free just me.
What kind of man am I? I swore I’d be His friend. That I would never leave.
His life I would defend.
My Jesus, Lord, and King. The cock is crowing now. I denied you thrice tonight.
And yet You knew somehow.
Your face, so full of sorrow. Could You just look my way? Can You forgive my sin?
A brother gone astray?
Our eyes meet. Time seems to freeze. What is it that I see? Your eyes so full of love.
Is it still meant for me?
It penetrates, convicts me. I know that I have sinned. No way could you still love me.
I denied you to all men.
Your mercies underserved. And your redeeming grace. For all I see is love.
It’s written on Your face.
The truth becoming clear. I see what Your life means. Intent to save our souls.
A dream that’s been foreseen.
*********
Someday beyond the veil. For’ere when life begins. This Peter will I seek.
Who’s cleansed from all his sin.
I too have run in shadows. So full of dread and shame. Accused of loving Jesus.
I denied I knew His name.
But when I heard of Peter. Who found his hope in Glory. His fall from grace was only.
The start of Peter’s story.
When I cry out like Peter. To God of love and grace. He’s there to lift my heart.
And meet me face to face.
I’ve learned much from Peter. Is sin worth all that pain? God used it for redemption.
His pain became God’s gain.

Amen and Amen....very beautiful!
You held my attention with the 'long sentence' and then a short one, I had to read carefully to see where you were going with this. I liked your portrayal of Peter, this lyrical way puts him in a new light and I can see him wanting so desperately to be 'forgiven'. This is really good!
Just a note though, in the line with "Could You just look my way?"
Perhaps you could have omitted 'just' because removing it didn't seem to trip up anything (from my POV, lol) and it read a little more of that time/era. Otherwise, great job! I really like how you change the second half to be the reader, it adds so much to this! ^_^
