Topic: Illustrate the meaning of "It's No Use Crying over Spilt Milk" (without using the actual phrase or literal exampl (02/07/08)
Have you ever been in a situation, you are so lost you do not know which way to turn? You feel as if you are in over your head, you are getting deeper and deeper into the pit of despair fighting for each breath, but you cannot see the light of day or the end of the tunnel. You are getting more and more upset with each passing moment and finding a solution is beyond your ability to do so. You feel like crying and holding a pity party.

I have been there because I was hardheaded, stubborn and used to think; I could take on the whole world and succeed. I was so arrogant and in my own mind; I did not need anyone because I was self-sufficient. I worked for a very large corporation, I thought I was invincible and started taking work home worrying over situations I could not change. I developed a very large, painful ulcer along with horrible migraines. My doctor, an old-fashioned country doctor, gave me medication for my health problem and very wise advice but at the time, I did not want to hear what he was saying. I suffered for over a year with that ulcer and headaches until one day the advice he gave me hit home. He said I could quit the job or leave the work at the office and live a healthy life. Why did it take me so long to realize that crying over things I could not change was absurd?

We cause ourselves so many heartaches all because we do not listen, learn from our mistakes or take advice from others who have been there. Are we brain dead? I have asked myself that question repeatedly. I used to call my mother crying and ask her advice. My mother had many old saying, which she told me many times. She used to say, grin grit your teeth and bear it. Another goody was can’t never could do anything but cry and moan, but can just got up and did it. My mother was wise and one of her favorites was hindsight is always 20/20. I finally understood what she was saying. It is no use crying and holding a pity party because it does not solve anything.

The greatest lessons I learned through all my trials and tribulations can be found in Gods Holy Word. Take for example Matthew 6:25-34. It talks about worrying. Crying over anything does not solve the problem. My personal favorite is Philippians 4:19. “My God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6 in another sage piece of advice but Isaiah 53:6-7 says it all. “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.” I am so thankful and happy that Jesus loves me despite my shortcomings.

In conclusion, it does not do any good crying over the past. What was is no more and the future is in Gods hands. Take one day at a time trusting God for guidance. If the world gives, you lemons don’t fret just squeeze them add sugar and make lemonade. How sweet it is.

"My doctor, an old-fashioned country doctor, gave me medication for my health problem and very wise advice...." I'd like to read more about this individual and what he had to say. You could actually put the words of your devotional in the mouth of characters, like this.
[Since Jesus taught in parables, I'm always partial to storytelling. (^&^)]

Otherwise, a well-written devotional.

Your devotional trounced on the instructions, "not use the phrase or literal example." I know it's hard but that's part of being obedient, following the rules. Also, the part with your mother's wisdom, either left out a word or two, or was lost in translation. The sentiment was there so keep writing.
