Recently I bought a new sewing machine so we could give my old Singer to our oldest daughter to use at college. It was so fun figuring out the button hole feature to finish curtains for Barbara's dorm room.
Memories were stitched on my old machine. Over the past two decades I've made maternity clothes, baby items, dresses for growing daughters, curtains, costumes, quilts and tiny dresses for Barbie dolls. Both our daughters learned how to sew on it.
I laughed when I pulled out the user's manual. The cover has designs all over it scribbled with a red pen when Barbara was first learning to write her letters. Barbara laughed too.
Some of us come into our adult lives with a lot of bad memories. They can weigh us down and keep us from seeing the blessings of God all around us. Solomon wrote that a merry heart is a good thing.
Take more time making new memories than you spend dwelling on the old. You will find yourself and the people around you much more happy. Your past cannot be rewritten, but you can choose to have a merry heart and build precious memories your own children can hold on to for a life time.
"Lord, help us take the time to make good memories with those we love. It will work like a medicine in our hearts and theirs."
