Many people are out in the world today claiming to be ministers of the true gospel of Jesus Christ; yet not truly knowing the qualifications that are required for this high calling! Thank our Lord that he leaves nothing out of his word for us to learn! In (Romans ch.15) we are taught that there are 8 main qualifications for this high yet rewarding calling. Although we will review them with short and sweet breakdowns, yet if applied they will produce great results! So let us begin!
Study from Romans:15
# 1. ROMANS 15:1
"We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves."
It is our Christian duty to "bear the infirmities of the weak", on a daily basis or when opportunities open. Christ came to earth and set the example of doing this for us in many ways. Think of it this way. Since Christ bears our infirmities for us; are we not to do the same for others when it comes to bearing their infirmities,(Hebrews 4:15)? Or how can you expect for Christ to come and lift you up with your infirmities and make you complete in your joy, when your not willing to do so for others? This is a great and honorable duty before God!
Some of examples are:
1.Standing up physically in the place for another. (Isaiah 53:5)
2. Those who are phyisicaly afflicted with infirmities are to be released from their infirmities by the power of God through us with healings and casting out of unclean spirits. NOTE: This is a commandment not an option!. (Luke 5:15, 7:21) (Matthew 8:16-17)
# 2. Romans 15:2
"Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification."
This is a way of life! We are to satisfy in the pleasing ways of Christ unto all who encounter us. This will strengthen our education in the Lord! For it is "good to edification". It will cause us to be pleasing unto God. For if we have done it unto the least of these we have done it unto him! -(Matthew 25:40) So this is a great way to show forth Christ' love in us publicly!
# 3. Romans 15:4
"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."
I cannot stress the importance of not just reading, but studying the word of God in all believers lives! All who truly love the Lord will perform this act. You will perform it, if so! "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."(2 Timothy 2:15). As we study we must obtain patients; this will birth forth comfort and hope from God as we learn all about him through scriptures! So let us keep our noises out of everything else and put them in his Holy word!
# 4. Romans 15:7
"Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God."
We must always in love, receive people first. The reason why I say first, is because Christ received us first while we were "dirty rags". There is a lot of this not happening today! It's a great form of outside judgement that is the cause! It's not just important to receive them at first;but to bring them into the "glory of God" through repentance. By saying first, I mean accepting them for what or who they are at first. Giving them a chance before casting judgement on them. This does not mean to be a doormat afterwards. Just receiving them first! Come as you are, says my Lord. (Luke 14:1-24)
# 5. Romans 15:8
"Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:"
The main objective to any ministry is the ( cutting away of the flesh) for the truth of God! We cannot increase in Christ, if we do not decrease in our flesh. (John 3:30) We have to cut off our flesh-man, so that we may become new in Christ. That is to say we must " die daily". (1 Corinthians 15:31)God will not dwell where there is be-sitting sin in your life. We have to confess our sins and seek after that which is righteousness. Become dead to your sin. Fight the good fight of faith and hold fast to that which is holy!
# 6. Romans 15:16
"That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost."
It is so important that we preach only the gospel of God and nothing else. For all other doctrine is a lie! (Romans 3:4) Let us go to all who are in need of the gospel, having God sanctify them through us, by his Holy Spirit. For God is no respecter of persons, therefore go to all who are in need regardless of color or race. (Acts 10:34) The preaching of any minister should consist of this, repentance and the Kingdom of God is at hand; which is Jesus Christ! (Matthew 10:7) and (Luke 17:21). So then; if the kingdom of God which is Jesus Christ, truly dwells in you, than you will only preach the true gospel of God's word which is Jesus,(John 1-5). And all other teachings will be dead unto you!!
# 7 Romans 15:18-19)
"For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God;so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ."
In a nutshell. We should not go around speaking of the things that we use to do and the way we use to be before Christ came in our life's. Rather speak those things which Christ hath done in our lives. Showing the newcomers by our words and deeds, which is of righteousness in Christ. Therefore causing them to want to receive this Jesus that has changed us so greatly and filled us with his love and manifesting himself openly. Showing great and wonderful things before them and giving Jesus Christ all the glory before them. Oh how people will hunger for what we have, when he is truly in us! When the true manifestations of Christ are flowing freely, many will come and seek that which is only by the Lord and savior for him to come into their lives.
# 8 Romans 15:30
"Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;"
This is not your regular prayer. This is intercessory prayer. A deep constant praying that does not end until results are made evident. Chiseling the rock until the jewel falls out type of prayer!
A must for any believer with common knowledge of the word. Paul here was not only asking he was begging (beseech) for such a request. Even requiring of it for the Lord's sake and our love for his Spirit in us that we do this very act! Work for the Kingdom! Saints of God, this is a must! Start stepping in place for others with the prayers of a Knight in the army of the most high King! Then you will see results in your life. Pray without stopping. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) When your brother or sister is in trouble, pray! (Acts 12:5) When someone you know pops in your head, pray over their life's for just a few seconds or so. (Romans 1:9) and (2 Timothy 1:3) Again I say, PRAY!
This is the main list of both a true Christian and minister of God!
1. Bear the infirmities of the weak!
2. Be pleasing unto all who encounter you!
3. Study God's word with patience, gaining the comfort and hope from the Father!
4. Receive all who come unto you out of love as Christ would!
5. Minister repentance from sin in the lives of all! Showing forth God's promises!
6. Minister the true gospel of God and nothing else!'
7. Do not boast of those things from your former life and only the things Christ hath done in you by words and deeds!
8. Be in intercessory prayer for all in your life mostly your family in Christ!
Follow after righteousness and he will direct your every way!
Bond to the promise which is in me,
