Encouragement
A number of years ago, I boarded a plane in Oklahoma City, headed for Atlanta, Georgia for a Home Mission Board meeting.
I represented Oklahoma Baptists for 8 yrs. on the HMB, serving 2 yrs. as Chairman of the 85 member Board.
On that same plane was Charles Tope (retired missionary to East Africa) who was also going to Atlanta, connecting on to Richmond, Va. where he was to represent Oklahoma Baptists on the Foreign Mission Board.
We sat together and de-planed in Atlanta where he left for his flight to Richmond...
while I went to check on my return flight to OKC.
It was then that I realized that somehow our tickets had gotten switched in our seats on the plane.
I had the ticket agents page Charles, so we were able to exchange tickets before we went our separate ways.
He was not going to be able to go anywhere on MY ticket....
and the same was true of me with HIS ticket.
So it is with our individual 'ticket relationship' with God....
for the abundant life now and for Eternal life to come.
The Bible is clear, "You must be born again!" (John 3:3)
No one else was born for you physically.....and no one else can be born for you spiritually.
Eventually everyone shall give an account before God of the things done while on earth.
Your ticket to Heaven is Jesus. Please allow Him to be all He can be....
to (and for) you now.
In John 14:1-6 Jesus said, "Let not your hearts be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also."
Thomas asked, "Lord, how can we know the way?"
Jesus said, "I am The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes unto the Father...
but by me."
Therefore we see that:
~ The Way you ought to go...
~ The Truth you ought to know...
~ The Life you ought to live....
1) Let's look at what the Bible says about 'The Way':
Proverbs 14:12:
"There is a way which seems right to a man, but it's end is the way of death."
Psalms 37:4-5:
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass."
Psalms 1:6:
"The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish."
2) Jesus is The Truth (not 'a' truth) for there are many 'truths', but Jesus is THE Truth.
Psalms 119:72:
"The law of thy mouth is greater unto me than thousands of gold and silver."
John 1:14:
"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
3) Jesus is The Life - not a life among many, but THE life above all others.
John 1:4:
"In Christ was life and the life was the light of all who believe."
John 10:10:
"The thief comes but to steal and to kill and destroy.
I am come that you may have life and have it more abundantly."
John 3:14-15:
"As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have Eternal Life."
This song expresses how we feel about Jesus:
"Jesus is All The World to Me"
Words & Music: Will L.Thompson (1847-1909)
"Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all;
He is my strength from day to day, without Him I would fall.
When I am sad, to Him I go, no other one can cheer me so;
When I am sad, He makes me glad, He’s my Friend.
Jesus is all the world to me, my Friend in trials sore;
I go to Him for blessings, and He gives them over and o’er.
He sends the sunshine and the rain, He sends the harvest’s golden grain;
Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain, He’s my Friend.
Jesus is all the world to me, and true to Him I’ll be;
O how could I this Friend deny, when He’s so true to me?
Following Him I know I’m right, He watches o’er me day and night;
Following Him by day and night, He’s my Friend.
Jesus is all the world to me, I want no better Friend;
I trust Him now, I’ll trust Him when life’s fleeting days shall end.
Beautiful life with such a Friend, beautiful life that has no end;
Eternal life, eternal joy, He’s my Friend."
CONCLUSION:
I received so many nice cards, letters and e-mail greetings for my 80th birthday....
and I am SO grateful for the JOY they brought me!
They might be summed up in the words written by Roland and Jo Kruis, long time friends and members at Bethel Baptist Church where I pastored for 11 yrs.
"You are very special to us and we believe that you and La Moyne are tremendous examples of showing everyone what God's Love can do for people. May God really bless you both for time to come. Thank you for loving us as we love you deeply."
We felt this type of love from family and friends alike...from near and far and the thoughts were deeply appreciated. Thank you SO much for the blessing you are to us!
I'd like to say 'thanks' also to my family (and my 'Moyne) by saying....
"Grow old along with me...the best is yet to be".
ALL OF THIS IS BECAUSE OF JESUS....WHO IS THE WAY....THE TRUTH....AND THE LIFE.
