Encouragement
The Holy Bible was written by people, Divinely inspired...
and is the record of God's revelation of Himself to us.
It is a Perfect Treasure of Divine Instruction.
It has God for its' Author...
Salvation for it's end...
and Truth without any mixture of error for its matter.
It reveals the principles by which God judges us.
It will remain to the end of the world, the true Center of Christian Union...
and the Supreme Standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions...
should be tried.
The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is, Jesus Christ.

Here are some Bible pictures of itself:
1) "Thy Word is a LAMP unto my feet and a LIGHT unto my path." (Psalms 119:105)
2) "Is not my Word like a FIRE, saith the Lord." (Jeremiah 23:29)
3) "The SEED is the Word of God." (Luke 8:11)
4) "People do not live by BREAD only, but by the Word of God." (Deut. 8:3)
5) "The Law of the Lord is sweeter also than HONEY." (Psalms 19:7)
6) "More to be desired than GOLD, is the Word of God." (Psalms 19:10)
What some great people have said about the Bible:
Abraham Lincoln:
"I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to us.
All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us via this Book".
W. E. Gladstone:
"I have known 95 of the world's great men in my time, and of these 87 were followers of the Bible. The Bible is stamped with a speciality of origin, and an immeasurable distance separates it from all competitors".
Patrick Henry:
"The Bible is worth all other books which have ever been printed."
Robert E. Lee: (La Moyne's lineage on her Mom's side)
"In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength."
Billy Graham:
"As the constitution is the highest law of the land, so the Bible is the highest law of God. For it is in the Bible that God sets forth His spiritual laws. It is in the Bible that God makes His enduring Promises and reveals the plan of redemption for the human race."
Dwight L. Moody:
"Sin will keep you from the Bible...or the Bible will keep you from sin.
Not just as a book, but it needs to be alive in us, through us and out from us."
Martin Luther:
"The Christian is never in a state of 'completeness'..
but always in the process of 'becoming'.
There is a recipe book for becoming and that is the Bible -
God's Word for us and our living."
John Newton was a slave trader who was converted to Christ and wrote the song, "Amazing Grace".
He said, "The Word of God can break a hard heart and heal a broken heart".
While serving as a Baptist leader in Texas, E.S. James said:
"We are not to judge the Scriptures, but we will be judged BY them.
We are not to spend time finding out whether the written Word is true...
but learning it's truths.
It is far more important to know WHAT the Bible says...
than it is to know WHY it says it."
William Wilberforce of England:
"Remember that there are 4 things that we must do with the Word of God"
1) ADMIT that it is the Word of God...
2) COMMIT it to our hearts and minds...
3) SUBMIT to it...
4) TRANSMIT it to the world.
INSPIRATION:
"When I am tired, the Bible is my bed;
Or in the dark, the Bible is my light;
When I am hungry, it is vital bread;
Or fearful, it is armour for the fight;
When I am sick, 'tis healing medicine;
Or lonely, thronging friends I find therein.
If I would work, the Bible is my tool;
Or play, it is a harp of happy sound.
If I am ignorant, it is my school;
If I am sinking, it is solid ground.
If I am cold, the Bible is my fire;
And wings, if boldly I aspire.
Should I be lost, the Bible is my guide;
Or naked, it is raiment, rich and warm.
Am I imprisoned, it is ranges wide;
Or tempest-tossed, a shelter from the storm.
Would I adventure, 'tis a gallant sea;
Or would I rest, it is a flowery lea.

One of my favorite poems is this one by John Clifford:
"The Hammer and The Anvil"
"Last eve I passed a blacksmith's door
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
When looking in, I saw upon the floor,
Old hammers worn with beating years of time.
" 'How many anvils have you had,' said I
'To wear and batter all these hammers so?'
'Just one,' said he, then said with twinkling eye,
'The anvil wears the hammers out you know.'
"And so, I thought, the anvil of God's Word
For ages skeptics blows have beat upon;
Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed--the hammers gone!"
The Bible says in Romans 10:17:
"So then faith comes by hearing...and hearing by the Word of God."
So friends, we all need more faith to live victoriously!

Yes indeed, the word does work Travis. Just as it says in John 1:1-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD. There is no other source higher than the Word of God. I love you both, Sharon
