DO YOU KNOW HIM?
Imagine yourself in church with your heart and mind prepared for a usual worship service. Then, you become aware that the ushers are quickly leading a man to a pew near the front of the sanctuary. Suddenly everyone notices him. He is the President of the United States. The congregation immediately rises to their feet, spontaneously applauding out of respect for him and the office he holds.
In reality, it’s not likely the President would ever show up at your church service. However, if you attend a Bible believing, Bible preaching church, a Person is there who has a set of impeccable credentials that have no equal. With His knowledge and power, the Presidency would be as child’s play. His prominence is clearly out of this world. During the service He will move silently throughout the sanctuary, revealing Himself in every prayer, every song, and in each spoken word.
But sadly, many in the congregation will not notice Him because they do not follow Him. Oh, perhaps they will go to church each week to read and hear about Him, but they don’t know Him. They will sing the song lyrics, but they don’t hear the music. They will sit through a sermon, but they don’t understand or listen to the message. Also, a growing number of churches today will not even permit Him to enter through their doors, as many of them teach a different and false gospel – or no gospel at all.
What about you? Do you recognize Him and know who He is? Do you truly know Him? Simply knowing who He is, or what He has done, does not mean that you know Him.
Among His titles are: the Alpha and Omega, the Bread of Life, the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father, the Light of the World, the Great Shepherd of the sheep, and the Lamb of God.
He is also the bright and morning Star, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Word of God, the Mighty God, the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords.
Do you know Him? His Name is Jesus!
He is wearing a robe of righteousness, stained with His blood – blood He shed on the cross for you and me. As He walks slowly down the aisles, He pauses…gazing into the eyes of each person, searching deep into their very soul.
With His arms wide open, Jesus calls softly and tenderly to all who will hear His voice, inviting them to come to Him. His outstretched arms reveal the scars in His hands from the nails that pinned Him on that cross where He suffered and died for your sins and mine.
Jesus’ call goes out to all – the young and old, the rich and poor, and the healthy as well as the sick. There is no difference because all are eternally lost in sin and need the Savior in their life. From Romans 3:23 we learn that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
He invites everyone to reach out to Him by faith alone to receive His gift of salvation that is freely offered to all. After you realize you are hopelessly lost without Him, then humbly bow down before God and cry out to Him in prayer. Tell Him you believe what Jesus did on the cross for you, and that you want your sins forgiven and washed away. Confess them to Him, then sincerely and deliberately invite Jesus into your heart and life as your Savior and the Lord of your life. Ask Him to change your life that you might live it all for His honor and glory.
When you do that and place Him first in your life each day with your complete dependence and trust, you will then have a personal relationship with Him. You will learn to pray and find comfort in His written Word. He will be your friend, your Savior, your Lord and Master, and your Blessed Hope for all eternity. Only then can you say that you truly know Him.
As Jesus silently walks the aisles of the church sanctuary and pauses by your side to look into your eyes and heart, then you will see Him, you will hear His voice, and He will know you. Jesus said in John 10:27-28 (NASB), “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
Jesus is the Propitiation for sin, the Redeemer, and the Savior. He is patiently waiting at the door of your heart for you to let Him inside. Have you answered His call to surrender your heart and life to Him? Do you know Him?
If you do know Him…then you can say “I am His, and He is mine” with confidence…and with the assurance of your salvation through Him as He has promised.
