Devotionals
There’s nothing more intimate than a mother holding her newborn child. A bond is formed the moment she feels the little flutter in her abdomen. It’s a bond that grows stronger with each stage of the pregnancy, the first ultra-sound, and into the delivery room. The moment she hears and sees her child for the first time, she feels a surge in her heart as she experiences extraordinary love for the very first time. The love between a mother and child is indescribable and therefore turns the ordinary event of childbirth into an extraordinary gift from God.
When God sent His Son into the world, do you think He had the opportunity to physically hold His baby boy, His child? Was God able to touch Jesus’ precious face or have His tiny hand grab hold of His mighty finger? Did He shed a tear of joy for the Gift He gave the world? Did He shed a tear for the extraordinary love, yet inevitable sacrifice on Calvary’s cross?
I believe that God touches each of His children, each one of us, through our earthly parents. Perhaps it’s through childbirth when we first feel the power of His touch. Perhaps it’s the moment we make eye contact with our baby, God’s child; that God sees His perfectly formed creation.
As babies, my children would lie in their crib and unexpectedly start kicking their little feet and flapping their little arms as they let out cute little sighs and coos. They always seemed to be looking at what seemed to me, to be empty space. Perhaps I witnessed God having a playful moment with His child. Was he tickling my babies with His mighty finger? Were we, as children, able to recognize the face of God even when He wasn’t visible to others?
Perhaps God gives us a glimpse of heaven that we forget much too quickly. Perhaps we get so blinded by our earthly presence that we lose focus of our Abba before we are able to memorize His extraordinary face. Perhaps the distance between God and all of us isn’t so far-away after all.

Prayer to the Father:
Abba Father, precious Jesus, and comforting Spirit – I love You!
Thank You for such a beautiful day.
Thank You for watching over and protecting my earthly family.
Thank You for the sweet smell of the roses in bloom and the playful butterflies that land on them.
Thank You for the air I breathe and the food that sustains me.
Thank You for providing all I need and then blessing me with much…much more.
Thank You for wanting me even though You don’t need me.
Thank you for the relationships in my life and the ability to minister to them.
Thank You for touching me with Your mighty finger to remind me that You are always by my side.
Thank You for cuddling with me as I sleep and protecting me through the night.
Thank You for believing in me when I lose faith in myself.
Thank You for the gentle reminders that I need to spend more time with You in thought and prayer.
Thank You for the Cross that saved me and the nails to remind me of how lucky I am to be Your child.
Thank You for Your extraordinary love and extraordinary forgiveness.
Thank You for Langley and for choosing Tony and Joan to be her earthly parents.
In Jesus name, I will forever pray. Amen.
Scripture:
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God.
