The Word for Writers
I Must Write. I Must Dance.
The art of writing is a dance. The spirit of creative imagination takes a step, and then I follow her lead. Articles, non-fiction, fiction, science fiction, poetry, letters, devotionals, short stories, novels, novellas, copy, speeches, songs, one liners, and how to’ s, are all waiting, as songs, to be danced to. I want to dance them all.
Every time I firmly grasp my pen, or set my fingers to the key board, I close my eyes, take in a deep breath, and wonder what song we will dance to, and what Ballroom floor we set ablaze this time.
Sometimes I am moving so quickly to the sounds of ‘Non-Fiction’ that I almost get dizzy keeping up with the facts and interviews that make the dance perfect. Other times I enjoy slowing down the pace and swaying to the symphony style of ‘Poetry’, and ‘Devotionals’. At times, I walk into a dance like ‘Speech Writing’ that seems so fast and complicated that I make several wrong steps. Yet I enjoy the challenge; how else will I learn? It is all amazingly beautiful to me.
For so long I sat on the side and watched the Writers dance these great dances. I would read the wonderful works that they danced so beautifully to create, and I desired to step out onto that grand Ballroom floor. Finally I noticed that although the songs were the same, every Writer’s steps were unique and amazingly his or her own. As long as I learned the song, I could create my very own steps. That is what makes my dance mine.
With a few billion works that have already been danced to perfection, still billions wait to be created. The songs are all waiting to be played, the spirit of creative imagination is waiting on the floor with hand outstretched, and I just bought a new pair of dancing shoes, and they are blue.
So I must dance.

I love the analogy of dancing so much that I desire to write an entire book on it. Thank you for reminding me of the romance of writing and that I must step onto the dance floor once more, allowing the music to lead me. This is a beautiful work of art you have created.
This is just beautiful. To compare your writing to dancing is quite a unique idea. As a lover of dance myself, I was intrigued by your title. I must confess you did quite a good job of dancing your thoughts into writing. There are so many writers out there who influence our thinking and writing that it is like a quick-step into a new world. Thanks for sharing.
