Christian Living
In my Christian walk I’ve often become disillusioned and very impatient looking at the world around me. I question God and his authority on what seems to be his own lack of resolution for returning to Earth. It’s often referred to as the Rapture, preached by Jesus and the Apostle Paul throughout the New Testament. How many Christians long for the day when they are no longer a part of suffering and heartbroken world? But it’s a topic that can be extremely sensitive and tricky. Many people disagree on how the end time events will take place, when will the rapture occurs and are we living in the end times. But realizing the prospect of every day that goes by is a day closer to Jesus’ return.
Patience becomes a major virtue as Christians sit and wait. It’s no wonder though since it’s been over 2000 years. Biblical Prophecy has become rampant in the last several years. Take a look at the popular Left Behind Series and the impact it has had on both believers and non-believers. For Christians it’s a realization that we need to be prepared to stand before our Lord to account for our lives but also a longing as we look toward home. For non-believers it could represent a great fear or a realization for the need of salvation.
The problem still remains its 2006 and we’re still waiting. Question is how we know when Jesus will return. Jesus’ response comes from Matthew 24:36,” No one knows the day or the hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” Summed up that still doesn’t help much but Jesus did say we could know the season of his return. He said to watch for “many false Christs would come, deceiving many; we would “hear of wars and rumors of wars”; and there would be an increase in “famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places (Matthew 24:5). It helps to have an idea what we’re looking for but doesn’t answer what we’re supposed to do with all the time in between.
I guess you could sum up the answer in one word: prepare. God doesn’t want us to twiddle our thumbs and idly sit by. He wants us to act upon our need for salvation, while we’re here to love our neighbors, to pray and be ready in a moment’s time for his return.
We are not all be expected to be Billy Graham’s or Mother Teresa’s. Maybe what matters most is how we act and react to those God has placed in our lives. By setting an example of what it’s went to be a follower of Chris. For some it means suffering, for others it may be baring on other’s burden or as simple as showing kindness to a stranger.
Everyday we’re offered opportunities, no matter how large or small. In the light of eternity you never know what a simple smile or hug could mean. Let’s quit being passive Christians in world that is so desperately dark. For this could be the year that Christ returns.
