Encouragement
How can I keep faith while waiting on God to answer prayers? Something I asked myself over and over as I was growing up. I am not a person who has a great deal of patience. As I have grown older (and hopefully wiser), God has shown me in His Word how to wait on His timing for my prayers to be answered.
We can’t see the big picture. Only God can see that. He has every thing all planned out and it all intertwines together to form His creation here. We pray and we don’t seem to think He is hearing us. You know, if you are a child of His, He hears your prayers. He has promised to. We don’t always get the response as quickly as we want or we don’t get the response we expect.
I prayed for my son for twelve years to come back to the Lord. I prayed every day believing God heard and would answer my prayers. It took those twelve years for God to work in my son’s heart and bring him back into the fold. In a human’s eyes, that seems an awfully long time to wait. In God’s eyes, it is a breath.
When we pray, we have to pray believing God will answer our prayers. We have to know at the outset that His time is not our time. We cannot go into a prayer not believing. Talk about shooting something down before it is even off of our lips. I believe that unbelief is the biggest obstacle to overcome in praying and waiting.
God’s wisdom far exceeds what we can ever hope to attain. While you are waiting on the Lord for an answer to a prayer request, take stock of the blessings in your life. Are you breathing? Then there is always hope. Do you see the blue sky or the cloudy one for that matter? Thank God for the ability to see. Can you hear the sound of the wind blowing through the trees or a child laughing? Thank God for the ability to hear.
Turning the wait around into looking for the blessings that we take for granted every day. Be thankful for the prayers that you have received answers for. Keep a prayer journal listing all your prayers. Record the date of the request. Review them frequently and record the date you received an answer.
Remember, it’s in God’s time, not ours. In Jeremiah 29:11 in the New International Version of the Bible, it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God has promised us hope and a future. Believe Him and rest in the knowledge that God cannot lie. He will answer you.

Great article on prayer and waiting! We have to persist in our prayers and we know when we pray that the Lord hears and answers in His time. Thanks for the reminder.
