Singing along with everyone else at church to a peaceful slow-paced song of worship, I suddenly felt moved of the Lord to cry out "My King." However, I didn't cry it out in my native language (English). My knowledge of the Spanish language leaves much to be desired. But I do know enough of it to know that true translation is difficult at best. The Spanish word for "reign" is "reinado," pronounced "ray-nah-do." Of course, you've got to get the little roll going on with the r, otherwise it just isn't correct. The Spanish word for "king" is "rey," pronounced "ray." Again, you've got to get that roll going on with the r.
It seems like an easy enough translation. But there's something much more passionate about the word for king when it is spoken in Spanish. I am not a hundred percent certain because I haven't done my homework. (I know -- tsk tsk.) But I feel quite sure that the word "rey" and the word "reinado" have very similar meanings according to the language from which the words were derived. That leaves me to believe that "rey" could be translated as much more than just "king."
To reign, according to my dictionary, is 1. To exercise sovereign power. 2. To be predominant or prevalent.
That tells me, if my assumptions are correct, that a "rey" is someone who exercises sovereign power, someone who is predominant or prevalent. We don't stop to give the word "king" such an explanation. Thus, "king" becomes overused and underrated. Imagine every time you ever said "He is the King of kings" that you were actually saying "He is the One who exercises sovereign power above all other powers, predominantly above all others and prevalent among all others." And when you said "My King," you'd actually be saying "The One who exercises sovereign power over everything in my life, the One who is predominant and prevalent in my life above all other persons or things."
I couldn't do that in English, though it was my heart's cry at that moment. So the Lord led me to do so in Spanish with two very simple words -- "Mi Rey." And then I cried out even louder, in sync with the music that was playing, my voice on the edge of weeping, "Mi Rey! Mi Rey!" I knelt before the One who exercises sovereign power over my life, the One who is predominant and prevalent in my life above all else. How could I do anything else but be still and quiet, kneeling there in the fullness of His sovereignty?
It was at that moment that someone whom I hold in very high regard whispered in my ear, "There is healing in your praise." There was no time for question or doubt or fear or pride to slip its ugly head in the door. At that very moment, I knew it to be true. I knew it to be true because I'd received my own healing, a healing that could not have been seen with the natural eye, a healing I'd been desperately in need of. But the fact of the matter is, there is healing in all our praise when that praise rises up from the hearts of a people who reach out and release every single thing in their lives to the One who is all-sovereign.
I want to take this one step further. Can you imagine with me for one moment that every tongue came together at once, the heart of ALL God's children, regardless of race, gender, religion, geography, language, etc., and lifted the same praise to the heavens. There would be a unified healing for the nations! The praise? Does it really matter how we voice it as long as it comes from the heart? But the hearts of ALL God's children, in the language of the heart, can all cry out together, "Mi Rey, my King, the One who exercises sovereign power over my life, the One who is predominant and prevalent in my life above all else, HE reigns!"
I cannot help but be moved every time I hear the Newsboys sing the popular Christian song, 'He Reigns.' Let me share the lyrics with you here. I'm sure many of you have heard the song. You might even have trouble reading it without tapping your foot as you do. But listen closely for what surely must have been on the author's heart as you read. Please allow yourself to agree, maybe even read out loud, and perhaps there'll be at least one who receives healing, whether seen or unseen, healing of the body, the soul, the mind, or the spirit. Let us embrace the words of one person's heart as they were reaching for the prevalent, predominant One who exercises sovereign power in everyone's language, the language of the unified hearts of ALL God's children.

He Reigns
as performed by the Newsboys
It's the song of the redeemed
Rising from the African plain
It's the song of the forgiven
Drowning out the Amazon rain
The song of Asian believers
Filled with God's holy fire
It's every tribe, every tongue, every nation
A love song born of a grateful choir
(chorus) (x2)
It's all God's children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns,(pause) He reigns
Let it rise above the four winds
Caught up in the heavenly sound
Let praises echo from the towers of cathedrals
To the faithful gathered underground
Of all the songs sung from the dawn of creation
Some were meant to persist
Of all the bells rung from a thousand steeples
None rings truer than this
(chorus)(x4)
And all the powers of darkness
Tremble at what they've just heard
Cause all the powers of darkness
Can't drown out a single word
(chorus)(till end)
When all God's children sing out
Glory Glory Hallelujah
He reigns,(pause) He reigns
All God's children sing out
Glory Glory Hallelujah
He reigns, (pause) He reigns
All God's people singing
Glory Glory Hallelujah
He Reigns, (pause) He reigns
(back to orig. chorus)

Psalm 98:4 Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth;
Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
5Sing to the LORD with the harp,
With the harp and the sound of a psalm,
6With trumpets and the sound of a horn;
Shout joyfully before the LORD, the King.
AMEN!!!!
