Have commitment marriage vows died away with withering of wedding bouquets? Undying love is rare in our ‘what’s in it for me’ generation. Scandal sheets fill magazine racks with stories of disillusionment and divorce. Why do they focus on failures? It sells.
Don’t buy in to the lie; all commitments don’t die. See the bright side; many marriages succeed. In many instances today, people live longer with baby boomers surpassing celebration of golden anniversaries. Recently, I learned of a happily married couple; both were over 100 years of age. They had celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary.
I’d guess there were squabbles and silent treatments. The husband might have spent nights sleeping on the couch or she could have briefly gone home to mother. Yet, they reconciled. Neither called it quits; they were devoted to each other. That’s beautiful; each spouse was faithful.
God is faithful. He loves us with an everlasting love.
“For this is like the days of Noah to Me:
when I swore that the waters of Noah
would never flood the earth again,
so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you
or rebuke you.
Though the mountains move
and the hills shake,
My love will not be removed from you
and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,”
says your compassionate Lord (Isaiah 54:9-10 HCSB).”
He promised; He is faithful.
“Because of the Lord’s faithful love
we do not perish,
for His mercies never end.
They are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23 HCSB)!”
