Psalm 1:2 'but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.'
The Bible is resplendent with instructions on how to read God's Word and this Scripture gives us another clue. Our thinking is to be shaped not by the counsel of the ungodly but by the words of Scripture as we look into it and think about it in all our waking hours.
His Word is the scaffolding which supports our lives and it must be before us, under-girding our lives all the time – day and night. It is to be our delight. And the more we expose ourselves to God's
words, the more we will crave for them. Nothing else will bring us greater joy. Meditating upon the Scriptures will be no effort, but something we can not daily do without.
The law of the Lord is a manual for the blessed life. Christ lived His life in both a knowledge of and obedience to, the Scriptures. Because of this, He was the Son who was well-pleased by His Father. Jesus gives us an example to follow. The righteous avoids building their lives on the worldly wisdom of the wicked, but instead, loves the law of God and applies it faithfully to their lives. Hence, that person will succeed in all that he or she does for God. Christ, the perfect blessed man, invites us in Psalm 1 to be just like Him.
'Father, may I enjoy your special favour and grace as I meditate on your Word day and night. Help me to delight in the Scriptures and apply them faithfully to my life. Amen.'
