It has been said that you will be the same person in five years from now as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.
The late Charlie Tremendous Jones is often quoted as the source of that quote but I believe it originated elsewhere.
Perhaps you have heard the saying that reading is to the mind what exercise
is to the body.
That's a great saying and there is more than a little truth to that statement.
We become what we think about most of the time so it is imperative that we read good books filled with great ideas and ideas that correspond to Biblical truth.
Books, when rightly read and studied, can change your life for the better.
Books are filled with the best of the best thinkers in the world. Frankly I don't understand the mindset of those who do not read. Do such non readers think they possess all knowledge?
People who don't read often waste their time watching mindless TV programs, sports and other trivia that will soon be forgotten or that will pervert their thinking toward the things of the world, flesh and the Devil.
I think it was Mark Twain who said: “The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”
Amen to that Mr. Twain.
Below are some books you may find of interest. I know I have.
For an investment of about $100-$250 you can add to your library some books that can be read over and over again.
Mark them up. Underline them. Make them part of your knowledge base.
In a few days after your books arrive you'll be adding to your knowledge and skills some of the ideas these various authors share with their audience and hopefully these will help you grow and progress on your journey throught life.
However, one point to remember that the apostle Paul wrote is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and that is "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
Read to understand but don't believe everything any author writes. Take what is good and use it for the benefit of others and of yourself. That is how I ended up winning speech tournaments in college. I prepared myself over the years with knowledge from reading many books and forming my world and life view coupled with a good amount of life experience.
Now go and do likewise.
