After the Flood, God Spoke to Noah
And God spake unto Noah, saying, Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee. Genesis 8:15-16;
From the time the flood came upon the earth up to the time the earth got completely dried up, Noah was held safe in the Ark with his family. Going by simple arithmetic, the total number of days Noah spent in the Ark was about one full year. But after the whole situation, God Spoke to Noah “Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee”. This voice was something Noah needed to wait for before taking any step. Was this the first time God would speak to Noah since the day he entered into the ark at God’s command? May be not, but this time around, the voice of God came expressly to him because he had come to a critical point in his life that only God’s voice could provide the foundation on which his life and the unknown future after the flood would rest.
After the earth got completely dried up, Noah didn’t take it upon himself or hasted to step out of the ark. Of course he knew where the door of the Ark was, after all, he was the one that constructed it. However, remember that although Noah built the ark and knew the position of the door, but he wasn’t the one that shut the door, God did. If God locked the door, it would be extremely foolish of Noah to think he could on his own reach for the door without waiting to hear God’s voice. Noah was not in a hurry to step out of the ark, he waited for God’s voice.
You need to hear God’s voice before making that move you're about to make. The greatest disaster, which would have been greater than the flood itself, would be for Noah to not hear God’s voice before stepping out of the Ark. Life for Noah would have been totally directionless, vague, pointless and empty if he had not waited for God’s voice. In actual fact, it was God’s voice that opened the door of the Ark, not a key. This is because it was God Himself (not Noah) that shut the Ark’s door.
In our lives as believers, we must realize that our greatest need is the voice of God. Habakkuk 2:1 says “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved”. Unfortunately, many people are too hasty, and are too much in a hurry to wait for God’s voice before making a move or taking a decision. Even when it’s clear that you have all it takes to move on at your disposal, you still must wait for God's voice. You may have the keys, but remember it is God's voice that opens the doors. God’s voice is worth waiting for. People that jump ahead of God’s voice don’t usually have good stories to tell, ask King Saul.
