Render To God The Things That Are God’s.
The governments of the respective countries in this world may or may not levy taxes depending upon their economic conditions…
“And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.”
Luke 2:1 (NKJV)
Caesar Augustus, the Emperor of Rome at the time of Jesus required all under Rome to register to pay taxes and as a good citizen, Joseph and Mary (parents of Jesus) also registered, however later during His ministry Jesus was once faced with a tricky question when the Pharisees tried to catch Him in His talk….
“Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the tax money.”
So they brought Him a denarius.
And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
Matthew 22:15-22 (NKJV)
The Pharisees never expected an answer like this, however what Jesus meant was very clear.
While on this earth, we have to abide by the rules of the earth and be a good citizen paying our taxes as required, however we should also never forget our accountability to God.
As the different currencies of the world has an imprint on them which represents their nation, we who have been created in the image and appearance of God have the imprint of God and thus we should take care that we fulfill our accountability to heaven and to God. We should ensure that our souls which have the imprint “made in heaven in God’s image and character” is not tainted with the sins of this world and if we find ourselves marred with sin, let’s seek repentance, get washed by the blood of the Lamb and get right with God.
It is our prime responsibility that we should endeavor to ensure our eternity in heaven.
Added to the above, the good Lord has placed us in our families so we have a heavenly responsibility for the souls of all who belong to us and to whom we belong.
Joshua boldly said…
“………as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)
When God created man and woman, He blessed them and said “Br fruitful and multiply.” (Gen 1:28), however this was not just the physical and material fruitfulness and multiplication, but I believe also the spiritual. In John Chapter 15 Jesus tells us the way to be fruitful…
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 (NKJV)
We need to abide in Christ and in His Word and ensure that we who are made in the image of God will remain faithful to Him and belong to Him always.
God Bless.

I enjoyed reading this heartfelt devotional. I like the comparison to the image on a coin to the image of God we're created in. Our life must represent Him in spirit and in truth and exemplify a Christ-like role model.
