"This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. The LORD's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him." The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him." (Lamentations 3:21-24)
As we pass through this world, we face the ups and the downs of life. And as trying as the downtimes are they like all else pass as the winter moves into spring. We all have our seasons in life, but we must not let each one that we experience distract us from the promise of our destiny found within the hope we have through our Lord and Savior Jesus. I have myself, as all, gone through periods in which the road seemed to be all uphill. But when we face theses struggles we must remember the truth that the Apostle Paul shared with us in his letter to the Roman Church. "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)
In this verse, we have read written by the Prophet Jeremiah whose life recorded in the Old Testament was filled with much uphill adventure. Jeremiah kept his feet steady upon the path the Lord led him upon by always remembering the hope that he had from his Lord. As the Prophet shares with us here in this passage of Scripture. We must not allow ourselves to become captured in the present position of the moment but keep our eyes fixed upon the goal of our life.
It is by our faith that we can win the victory promised us by God’s Word that as we serve Him with our best, he will meet the full measure abundantly. That we live our lives in the present eternal life that we have and testify to those who will hear of the truth we have found in the Lord Jesus Christ. "Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses." (1 Timothy 6:12)
There is for mankind no other place for hope to rest. Our God loves us and is compassionate towards each us and by His mercy towards us has restrained His anger. As we stumble our way up the King’s Highway, the Lord is faithful to forgive us in our weaknesses. “But He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; And often He restrained His anger And did not arouse all His wrath.” (Psalm 78:38)
The Lord ever has compassion towards the crown of His creation. The world is in constant flux, but God is the solid rock that we can found our lives upon, and though this wavering world may pass away His word will endure forever. "But the word of the Lord endures forever." (1 Peter 1:25) He is the friend that is closer than a brother, nearer than the air that we breathe, and will never forsake us. Jesus is faithful and true and unwavering to the currency of pop culture. Trust and faith in the ways of the world will always fail as the thoughts of man are never sure. But we can put our trust and faith in the Son of God who is solid in the passion of His heart with agape love for the souls redeemed by His blood. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)
The Walk of faith for the Christian is never an easy one as the world does not know us as they do not know whom we serve. But we need not fear as our Lord is always with us, our Lord is in us, and He will direct our paths. "In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:6) I admit that there are times in my selfishness I say I got this. I go off and try to attempt things on my own only to find if I am not abiding in the Lord and the eventual outcome will be far from satisfying. "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)
I ask myself, self, how long must I be so faithless in my endeavors? In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus gave us the key to not only a victorious life but a life of needs met. God is the great provider. He created the heavens and the earth by His word, (Genesis 1) and by His word He will provide all that we need to accomplish His will and purpose for our life. "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:33)
Each day that we have is a unique gift given to us from an infinite God. As no two snowflakes are the same, no two human beings are the same, so each day has been created especially and uniquely for us. As everything God creates, it is very good. Each day as we pray for our daily bread, the Lord provides that which we ask. It is through Jesus that God fulfills this promise each day that we receive our portion. "This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever." (John 6:58) As the world throws it mountainous curves into our path we hold unto the hope that is as sure as His Word. We may be walking in the world but let us always be living in the Kingdom of God.
When we pause to look back over the path, we have traveled it becomes easy for us to see the hand of our God’s providence entwined along the way. What blessing it has been the hand of the Almighty God our Heavenly Father cares for His Children along The way that He has prepared for us. The ruler of this world will place every distraction he can into our path, but our Lord will lead us through. As we look into the past we see that the Rock of our Salvation is as Faithful and True as it is ever so. "Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls." (Jeremiah 6:16) It is by this truth that we walk onward as sound Christian soldiers.
God’s promise is the surety of our hope, that when we see clearly from the topside of the canvas of our life we will see that the picture of our life is beautiful and served His purpose and we will stand before our God unashamed. “The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.” (Psalm 16:5) We will be in marvel as how “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
