Below are several proverbs/bible verses and a detailed reflection of each proverb.
"If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures Then you will discern the fear of the lord" Proverbs 2:4 This proverb illustrates how the fear of the lord can actually be learned in a state of discernment. Normally I have had to learn the fear of the lord through suffering or through difficult circumstances. In those hard times the lord would discipline me and teach me to fear him. However, there's another aspect thats tied to fearing the lord. That aspect is the mental discernment of the fear of the lord. The best way way to increase this aspect of discernment of the fear of the lord is to read the bible. In doing this, you will gain wisdom and humility. After all, "Humility is the fear of the lord." Proverbs 22:4. If you wish to chase after wisdom and discern the fear of the lord I recommend reading the book of Proverbs.
"The fear of the lord leads to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil." Proverbs 19:23 First of all it says the fear of the lord leads to life. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." John 14:6 All the proverbs point to Jesus. When we believe in this proverb, we begin to understand how truly protected we are by Jesus. It's ironic how by us fearing the Lord he protects us. When we walk in integrity and fear the lord, and believe in Jesus we are infinitely protected. "He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out" Proverbs 10:9 The more we acquire wisdom by reading proverbs the closer we are to God. No matter what his loving hands protect us from calamity and the devil. Even legions of his angels protect us at all times. "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways" Psalm 91:11.
"A tranquil heart is life to the body" Proverbs 14:30 When we worship Jesus, have him in our heart and gain wisdom by reading the proverbs, our heart becomes tranquil and filled with Joy. Joy of our salvation:) Our hearts become pure. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8 The purer the heart, the more tranquil. Proverbs and the desire for attaining wisdom gives us a specific blessing. In referring to wisdom this other proverb says: "Prize her and she will exalt you: She will honour you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty" Proverbs 4:8-9. In following Christ and reading proverbs we experience this blessing of gaining wisdom and our hearts become more tranquil. We become filled with life spiritually and in the body.
"If you have been foolish in exalting yourself Or if you have plotted evil, put your hand on your mouth" Proverbs 30:32In reading this proverb the bible says that we should feel repentant in response to our sins. We must do so in a manner where we are humbled. Knowing that our sins may have hurt other people we love. Be it friends or family. We put our hand on our mouth in caution and repentance that we hurt our Lord, and that our sin may have hurt someone we love who is dear to us. This proverb also shows the manner in which we should all repent. It shows how we are all sinners and fall short of the standard of Christ. Luckily we can be saved by inviting Jesus into our hearts and repenting "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
"Do not turn to the right nor to the left; turn your foot from evil" Proverbs 4:27 In this proverb we see that the path to heaven and salvation is a very narrow path. We must invite Jesus into our heart and in doing so we walk that narrow path. Few people find this path to heaven that is Jesus Christ. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it." Matthew 7:13 This also brings to mind a Charles Spurgeon quote. "If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies, If they perish let them perish with our arms about their knees. Let no one go there unwarned and un-prayed for" We should care this much that people are taking the wide gate that is broad and leads to destruction and hell. We must evangelize with all our hearts and share the gospel proclaiming the narrow gate that is Jesus Christ. "Deliver those who are being taken away to death, And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back" Proverbs 24:11
"The spirit of a man can endure his sickness, But as for a broken spirit who can bear it?" Proverbs 18:14 While we may have to endure pain from sickness be it sickness in our bodies or our minds, the pain of guilt from sin is much worse. The implications and result of sin is the worse pain we can feel.
"He who guards his mouth and his tongue, guards his soul from troubles" Proverbs 21:23 When we guard our mouth and our tongue, we are protecting ourselves from calamity in this fallen dangerous world. There are so many things along with sin and the devil in the world that can hurt us. Guarding and holding our tongue is its own form of security and protection. Guarding your tongue is all about survival. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Proverbs 18:21
"As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable" Proverbs 25:3. This Proverb shows how in the old days Kings had a certain heart and status that made them untouchable. They were seen as unavailable and above their subjects in a royal sense. How great it is that we now have a new king named Jesus Christ who makes his heart infinitely searchable for us and available to all who call on him. Jesus heart is a gift from God, because it is also now in us. As long as you have a relationship with Jesus Christ his heart is yours and your heart is his:) How great it is to have the most meek and humble King
"The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted" Proverbs 29:25 Whenever we fear man we lose sight of the true enemy; the devil. In this life the Christians three main enemies are our flesh, the world, and satan. However we must be as bold as lions "The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion" Proverbs 28:1. We need not fear calamity for in the future God will always make us smile again. Part of being a soldier in Christ and having that mentality is smiling and worshiping the Lord in the face of adversity. Also we need not fear man as man has no power over our souls and our eternal destiny. "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell" Matthew 10:28
"Keep my commandments and live, And my teaching as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart" Proverbs 7:2 This is a call from the writer of proverbs King Solomon to become fully saturated with scripture. The way to do this is to memorize and meditate on scripture. If King Solomon calls us to do this then we should heed his call. Also Jesus Christ memorized more scripture than any other person. Doing this is a matter of survival in life and in spiritual warfare. It is our powerful sword of truth. Bible verses have their own power and authority. Trust in that authority...They have the power as the sword of truth to completely turn our life around. They have the power to make something out of nothing and make a way when it seems like there is no way ahead. If we memorize scripture and pursue wisdom we will live many long years in this life. "The fear of the Lord prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened" Proverbs 10:27
"Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered, but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall" Proverbs 28:18 No matter what if we are going through calamity or a difficult circumstance we will someday be delivered as long as we trust in Jesus. We can trust in Jesus to deliver us because he is the good Shepard and has over come the world. "Take heart! for I have overcome the world" John 16:33. There is no human being who has ever overcome the world before what a great God we have that is Jesus. Through him we can overcome the world one day too. Obey Jesus, and walk in integrity and gain wisdom. "Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them" Proverbs 4:5
"Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord" Proverbs 16:20 The key to handling a matter wisely is to trust in the Lord. True wisdom is to trust the Lord. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" Proverbs 3:5 The more we pray, the more we are able to implement trusting the Lord.
"So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom" Psalm 90:12Here Moses in his prayer is saying that if we number our days, we will get wisdom. I believe that he is referring partially to living in the moment and being grateful for our blessings in the moment. The more we are grateful, the wiser we are. The way I have learned to be in the moment is to pray as much as I can. The more I pray, the more in the moment I am for the rest of my day. I find myself living hour to hour just excited to see what will unfold in my day filled with joy. Prayer also makes me feel joy at my inner self. I feel a strong relationship with my soul that I am.
" Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies" Psalm 119:98 "Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold" Psalm 119:127Many christians are unable to recite the 10 commandments. Though Jesus' sacrifice makes us no longer under the law, I believe it is still very important to meditate on and memorize the 10 commandments. In these verses above, the writer says that learning the 10 commandments will help us to obtain wisdom. If we wish to become wiser we must memorize the 10 commandments and meditate on them as a priority. In doing so we will become wiser in listening to holy instruction. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom and instruction" Proverbs 1:7
"Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered" Proverbs 28:26 There is false wisdom of the world, and there is true wisdom of God. Whenever we only trust in our own minds we are in danger of seeking dangerous false worldly wisdom. This is false knowledge from Satan. We must always walk in and pursue the wisdom of God. In order to walk in godly wisdom to be delivered from our calamities, we must walk wholly in Jesus. Keep your eyes on Jesus and he will deliver you and unfold wisdom in you from above like you could never believe. Christ is wisdom personified."You are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God." 1 Corinthians 1:30 "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight" 1 Corinthians 3:19 ""For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men" 1 Corinthians 1:25
"The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom.." Proverbs 9:10
It is only when we first learn to fear the Lord that we are able to truly convert to christianity and invite Jesus Christ into our heart. Jesus is wisdom manifest. When Jesus first enters our hearts at the point of conversion, that is the beginning of such person experiencing godly wisdom (as opposed to worldly wisdom) for the first time. The fear of the lord really is the beginning of wisdom
The concluding matter of this article is this: "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom" Proverbs 4:7 The bible says Jesus is wisdom itself.
