"Let's trust that Jesus is worthy of radical devotion. Let's take him at his word when he says that he is a treasure worth giving everything in this world for. Let's stop living as though we need more possessions, greater positions, more plaudits, or greater pleasures in this world.
For that matter, let's stop living as if this world is even our home. And let's start living as if we were created for another world, where a Savior waits for all who have forsaken this world because they believe in his great worth. Let's start living as though this world has nothing for us because Christ is truly everything to us.
Let's join our brothers and sisters around the world who have joyfully sacrificed the comforts, safety, security, pleasures, and priorities of this world in order to follow Christ. Let's join our brothers and sisters who have decided to spend thier lives for his glory in this world. Let's join them in trusting that Jesus is, indeed, someone worth losing everything for." David Platt - The Radical Question - A Radical Idea
If you profess Christ, is He your motivating agent in setting your agenda for the day? Do you rely on His grace and His grace alone as sufficienct? Is He preeminent in every area of your life; financial, career, relationships, pleasures, service?
In order to be whom, He has called us to be, it will cost us every ungodly 'thing' within us. It will cost us our own self-indulgence. It will cost us our own selfishness. It will cost us every thought to be brought under the obedience of the cross.
It will cost us sacrificing what I want to do in order to step into what Christ desires to do in and through me.
The life we have been given is the very divine holy nature of Christ whose life becomes our life. His life is who longs to pass through ours so others will touch the love God desires for all to be reconciled with and to.
I am learning bit by bit about this love. This love God lavishly pours into me each minute I willingly receive. This love God shares in abundance is not motivated by greed, nor is it corrupted by human's ill motivations.
This love God wants to gift to us is free and there is nothing we can do to earn it, to buy it or to deserve it. This love God inhabits is the same love His son came to earth to share, to teach about and to live in the flesh of a human. This love now has been infused into every core of our bodies, soul and spirit.
This is the love God wants us to share with the world. Freely, unmotivated by selfish wanting. This love God wants us to gift to others is unentangled from any expectation or return on our part to get anything from it. This love is so pure, so holy, so divine it is unlike anything we as humans can know, understand or conceptualize with our limited minds.
Yet, each day we come before our God, He fills us again, newly vitalizing His Spirit in ours and renews us in refreshing His love in us, so we can begin again, this day, today, stepping into all those opportunities we are given to share His love with others.
Whether it is in smiling at the cashier, greeting others warmly, inviting others into the space of human kindness, or simply showing caring and compassion, this is the love we learn to give away.
This is the love the Christ in us longs for us to sink into, bathe our thoughts in and to saturate every cell, organ and system in our bodies with, each moment or each day of each month we are gifted this precious life.
This is the love Jesus Christ is here today, now to give to you, to fill you with, to shower you in, to pour upon you as anointing from the most high God, whose life now resides, dwells, and has been infused into every nook, cranny and core of our beings.
This is the selfless giving of our time, our energies, our resources to be broken as He was broken to be poured out as a living sacrifice towards others in the service He has chosen and called us to participate with Him in.
There is nothing we can do apart from His supernatural power who moves us in the realm of the spiritual, to go forth in and by His ability to accomplish what He desires for us to, setting aside our own agendas, our own longings and our own desires exchanging self-tendencies with Christ-reliant God-consciousness.
This my friends is the life of the Son of God who is the origin and author of all life and He is here today to birth His divine life into us again and again, spurring us onward, energizing His Spirit in us, blowing fresh winds of holiness into the fabric of our humanity.
Reflective prayer:
Is Jesus worth everything to me? Is the life Jesus gifted to me being lived as He desires? Am I learning to understand this walk is all grace? Is the life I have been given being returned to Christ each day in serving as my lifestyle?
