WHAT MOTIVATES ONE TO KNOW AND FOLLOW GOD?
Romans 5:1-11RSV
Bible study by Robert Schaetzle
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.
6 While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man—though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. 8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we are now justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation.
Observations of promises and questions to challenge us
Share your perspective to how we might be ‘living as being under God’s authority
Vs 1] How do we manifest a calm or live demonstrating His peace apart from that of the unregenerate person?
Vs 2] God’s abiding Holy Spirit reveals His presence, but what motivates us to share the glory of God?
Vs3] Suffering is not always pleasant or wanted, so how do we recognize His strength to endure, and resulting character quality of joy through suffering?
Vs4-5] What might be our hope not seen? [not just physical/ emotional healing] but increased trust letting go human fear/ control to demonstrate His love?
Vs 6-7 Christ is knocking at our hearts, [Rev3:20] even the ungodly. For a ‘good man’ how would dare to die [of self-will] to be bold to share Christ to another?
Vs 8-9 What will motivate God’s love in us, to yield to His prompting to act in sharing?
How might we define to another: ‘saved by him from the wrath of God?’
CONCLUSION: cf: Titus 3:5 / 1 Peter 3:18
