By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 1 John 4:17 NAS
When we come to the point as a believer where we know for certain we can stand boldly in confidence with no fear before God on the day of judgment; His love has been perfected with us.
This confidence and boldness before God will never come if we are looking at the flaws and failures that remain in our dead flesh. We are called to see our flesh as crucified and dead on the cross with Christ. The death of our flesh took place one time, right before we were born-again in God’s eyes and we are to agree by faith. God condemned sin in the flesh and this is why it will die. By faith, we see this future event as our reality now. God did not redeem our flesh, nor can we.
"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Gal 2:20 NAS
It is an exercise in futility perpetrated by the enemy to place any hope in being able to perfect our flesh to a point of boldness or freedom from fear to stand before God.
You may brag about yourself, but the only approval that counts is the Lord's approval. 2 Cor 10:18 CEV
God has given us a better hope in His Son.
(for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Heb 7:19 NAS
According to God’s word, boldness and confidence on the day of judgment is already the possession of everyone who has placed their faith and trust in Christ. The reality of this truth will be revealed in our hearts and minds in this life, when we believe God 1,000 percent, it is all about God's promise and our faith in Jesus one time perfect sacrifice for all sins, for all time. We are called to walk by faith and see ourselves and other believers in the Spirit as though we were already free from our dead flesh.
This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him. Eph 3:11-12 NAS
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Heb 4:16 NLT
Stating that we know we can stand boldly before God is not a position of arrogance or self-righteousness as the enemy may try and suggest to you. It has nothing to do with, nor does it leave any room for boasting in self. It is a position of faith in Jesus sacrifice, faith in God’s word and boasting in the finished work of Christ alone. We confirm our faith as we boast in the totally finished work of Christ that we rest in.
but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-- whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. Heb 3:6 NAS
But HE WHO BOASTS IS TO BOAST IN THE LORD. For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends. 2 Cor 10:17-18
In this world, the fallen flesh that our perfected Spirit still lives in, will cause strife and struggle and often try to run the show. We will fail at times as Paul and all believers do.
And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Cor 12:9 NAS
God is looking for our faith in His promises, in His finished work in Christ that guarantees all who believe eternal life. We keep our eyes on Jesus and who we are in Christ. We believe God’s word over our feelings or what we see in the mirror.
…However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:8 NAS
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. Col 3:1-2 NAS
Love was perfected with Paul when by faith he was convinced that through Christ’s sacrifice alone, nothing could separate him from the love of God. In the same way, love is perfected with us when we are convinced that the love of God in Christ will never, ever leave or forsake us. God, Himself has justified us, who can condemn us? This is when we know we can stand confidently and boldly before God with no fear of judgment or punishment.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Just as it is written, “FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED.”
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:31-39 NAS
Perfect love has cast out fear of judgment and any punishment.
Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:15-19 NAS
Can you stand boldly before God on the day of judgment with no fear of punishment? If you sense that you cannot, that there is some doubt or fear, take your eyes off yourself and put keep them on the finished work of Christ and who you are in Christ. Let the love of God cast out all fear of punishment. Let the love of Christ be perfected with you, enter the holy of holies and let your Father love on you.
It is all about Jesus.
