This hour has come. “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24 NAS
God calls all believers to worship Him in Spirit and truth. To do this, we must walk by faith in the Spirit, in the truth of the New Creation God has already made us. We are no longer in the flesh, the old creation that has been crucified and has died. God tells us that we are right now a New Righteous Creation in Christ. The old creation, our flesh, has passed away on the cross with Christ – Gal 2:20. This is how God sees it. This is the truth for eternity. We are called to walk by faith in what God says is true but still unseen to us, not by sight in the flesh.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away (died); behold, the new has come. 2 Cor 5:17 (emphasis mine)
Walking by faith in the Spirit is how a believer has victory in this life, slams the door shut on the enemy’s attacks and overcomes sin, the lusts of the flesh.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. Gal 5:16 NAS
Walking in and by the Spirit, believing what God tells us Jesus has accomplished for us, is how we can worship God in Spirit and truth. By agreeing with what God says is true but we cannot yet see, we acknowledge the great work of Jesus for us. When we walk by faith in the Spirit, in His completed work, we honor Jesus. This is true worship. If we continue to walk in the old creation, the flesh, trying to perfect the dead flesh by the dead flesh, we do just the opposite and walk by sight and not faith, denying the truth of God’s word.
Walking by faith in the Spirit leads to the supernatural production of the fruits of the Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) defeat, overcome and overwhelm the failures of the flesh as the Spirit rises above the flesh in this life. Walking by faith in the Spirit is very attainable for all believers.
We cannot see in the Spirit with our eyes of flesh but walking by faith in the Spirit is not complicated. Think of yourself standing in absolute darkness, fearful and not able to see which way to go. Now, let God be your eyes, your light, let Him tell you what is true, what He sees in the Spirit, believe and follow Him. When you agree with Him, you will walk together with Him in the same direction. When you focus on what He tells you is true, your mind is renewed to the truth of who you are in Christ and the truth will dominate your mind and thoughts.
God is a Spirit and can see in the Spirit, but we cannot see in the Spirit with our eyes of flesh. This is why God calls us to walk by faith in what He can see in the Spirit and tells us is true for all eternity. To walk by faith in the Spirit, we look through the eyes of God by reading His word and meditate specifically on the New Creation we are right now in Christ, in the Spirit. We do this by faith, believing what God tells us is true despite what we see in the mirror. By faith, we agree with God’s word that our sin-laden flesh was crucified and died with Christ on the cross. By faith, we believe we are right now the New Creation God has promised and describes in His word.
To walk in the Spirit, we no longer walk by sight with our eyes of flesh.
For we walk by faith, not by sight— 2 Cor 5:7 NAS
To walk in the Spirit, we walk by faith in what is unseen and eternal, but God tells us is certainly true.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Cor 4:18 NAS
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, Heb 12:2a NAS
Radically meditate and focus upon what is unseen and eternal, the New Creation God tells you that you are in Christ in the Spirit. When you first wake up, state out loud the following declaration. This slams the door shut on the enemy’s attacks and lets God know you believe what is unseen and eternal, what He states is true. Meditate and memorize this declaration, stating it several times all day long to yourself. Do this especially at any sign of doubt, fear, worry or attack, renewing your mind to the New Creation you are for all eternity. These truths are the armor of God.
