I believe the Bible to be the very Word of God manifest to be recorded by various writers and compiled as THE book (The Bible) that we have today (II Tim. 3:16)
I realise that many have preconceived beliefs concerning what the Bible has to say about what we should and should not eat. Let’s have a look at the following Bible verses together and ponder on them to become more knowledgeable and wiser (2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV))
Gods’ original diet plan/nourishment for the physical body of man is clear in the book of beginnings, as life of man began IN A GARDEN…
Genesis 1:
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is i]">[i]life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
Genesis 2 (NKJV)
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
15 Then the Lord God took "the man and put him in the garden of Eden to"tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 9 (NKJV)
So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. 3 EVERY MOVING THING THAT LIVES SHALL BE FOOD FOR YOU. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. 4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man.
6 “Whoever sheds man’s blood,
By man his blood shall be shed;
For in the image of God
He made man.
7 And as for you, be fruitful and multiply;
Bring forth abundantly in the earth
And multiply in it.”
Exodus 16:12
Proverbs 15:17
John 6:27
John 4:34
1 Corinthians 6: 13
Man’s physical design appears to be naturally… herbivore, not carnivore:
- hands designed with opposing thumb and fingers for picking and eating fruits and vegetables.
- organs to digest fruits and herbs (vegetables), seeds and nuts.
- Teeth shaped to chew and grind the fibers found in raw fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts.
From the Bible verses we see here, from the old to the new testament, God’s original plan was a vegetarian MAN! Later after the fall and God’s cleansing anger of the FLOOD, He allowed flesh (my thinking is man had indulged in this in the gross sinful activities that resulted in the judgment flooding); the death of animals is obviously showing that; there is a break in man’s relationship with the most High; a death is needed to bring humanity back into a right relationship with God. The true death that brought humanity back into relationship with God was the death of Jesus Christ (Romans 5:8-9). The sacrificial death of animals pointed to the death of Jesus and how he has paid for humanity’s sins.
What to do? Accept Christ’s death on our behalf and be free indeed!
Proverbs 25: 27
1 Corinthians 10:31
Mark 7:14-23
1Timothy 4:4-5
Colossians 1:16-17
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
