Today is our son Lee’s birthday.
As his mamma, I have bragging rights; he can do most anything that he sets his mind to. In 1986, at the age of 15 he started working on motor vehicles. He gained first hands experience while working on our family car (a 1967 Plymouth Fury). We bought it used from a conscientious owner, truly a little old lady scenario.
Not long after, a shop mechanic remarked; the brake pedal did not show wear and that it worked like it was new. The ‘Ply’ as Lee nicknamed the car provided him with a good mechanical background. Over the years he has built a solid reputation in paint and body, mechanical, tires and restoration work.
I share a true story. Lee was out of town and driving home after work on Interstate 10 in Northwest Florida. He spotted a dream car broken down along the side of the highway. Getting his attention, Lee stopped to see if he could be of any help. After an inquiry he looked under the hood.
Turning his attention to the stranger, he asked if the man had a ball point pen. Expecting to write down information on what repairs he needed and parts to buy he had a surprise. Our son reached for the pen; he unscrewed it and removed a small spring from inside. Then Lee used the spring to make a quick change on the carburetor.
He told the man that the adjustment would allow him to drive to the next town (where he could buy needed auto parts).
“Do you see a man who excels in his work?
He will stand before kings;
He will not stand before unknown men (Proverbs 22:29 NKJV).”
