Every good work is repaid by God in abundance. The golden words of Jesus Christ always make me think deeply about this great generosity. He says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38 NIV)
Who can match His generosity?
Give and practice giving
Have you ever watched a parent handing a dollar bill to his little kid, guiding him to put it in the collection box passed during the church services? I was doing it when my kids were small. Now they are grown up and are showing my example to their kids.
Yes, we let our children practice generosity, though we may be handling only a very small amount of money! But have we ever noticed what change it brings to the eyes of the child? Those eyes open wide and shine with great satisfaction and joy to contribute that one dollar bill as if he is putting a one-hundred-dollar bill into the collection box!
God repays abundantly
Whatever we contribute to others with an attitude of love and charity is repaid by God in abundance. He gives back even more than we expect. His generosity is always overflowing! Can anyone "outgive" God?
The words of St.Paul about giving generously should make us think we should give. He says, "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9: 6-8 NIV)
God helps us to give
Further St.Paul assures the giver that God who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase the store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of the giver's righteousness. God gives us abundantly and, as His stewards, we are expected to show our generous hearts. We may feel that we do not have much to give to God. But, be sure, God's storehouse is never empty! Even when we are exhausted of our resources, He can keep us cheerfully and give us the energy to carry on our lives cheerfully.
How can we get this grace of abundance?
What should we do to get this grace of abundance? It is easy by fixing our hearts on the One who gives us everything. It is He who gives us whatever we may need. With confidence, we can say with the Psalmist, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him." (Psalm 28:7 NIV)
Our attitude of generous sharing brings us back the abundant grace of God and a joyful life on this earth!
