SERVING and WORSHIPING THE LORD
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: Does the word serve imply servitude or a servant like attitude toward God? Jesus himself was not above donning an apron and washing the feet of the diciples. Serving the Lord does require obediance and humility to the Word of the living God we worship and as His children through the new birth we should live as he would have us to live.
There are many ways Christians worship and serve the Lord. Do we do it through obligation (forced) or duty (legalism). Perhaps we do it through rituals (cermonial) or generational religions. Jesus once spoke to a woman at the well and explained the kind of worship he expected from believers. He told her " its not where we worship but how we worship". Is our worship spiritual and real, do we have the Holy Spirits (Comforter) help or is it legalistic and out of obligation?
All born-again believers make up the true "church" of which Christ is the head. Religion and denominations have caused allot of friction and seperation between believers fracturing the unity of the body (the true church). Maybe it's time for believers to serve (worship) the Lord as a body without the interferrance of religions, titles and denomintions. We are all one in Christ, brothers and sisters in a spiritual family created in the image of the triune God the Father...that doesn't make us God's but we are in the likeness of God. We have a spirit that gives us life, a soul tht gives us identity and a physical body...three in one.
God is Spirit, the great I AM who put on the flesh of a man called Jesus. When we ask him into our life it is the Spirit part of Jesus (the Comforter) that takes up residence. Do we worship and serve God in Spirit, mind and body? Is our worship real and out of a heart of love and awe for who he is or is it mechanical, out of duty or ceremonial trusting only in our membership in a religious organization or denomination other then the name of Jesus? The transformed, immortal body of Jesus after His resurrection is in Heaven interceding on our behalf. It is this Jesus, in his new body that will return to rule the world for 1,000 years. In the meantime he comes in spirit form as the Comforter and dwells in the lives of all who invite him in. Time is short, are you ready to meet the Savior face to face in the rapture?
Prayer: Father God, thank you for revealing to me what true worship is all about. I'm no longer bound by a denominational name or religion but now have a personal relationship with you through Jesus who is the head of the "true church". Amen
Verse: John 4:21-24 "Jesus replied, "The time is coming ma'am when we will no longer be concerned about whether to worship the Father here or in Jerusalem. For it's not where we worship but how we worship--is our worship spiritual and real? Do we have the Holy Spirit's help? For God is Spirit and we must have his help to worship as we should."
