When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. Matthew 14: 26.
Do you sometimes feel like Jesus is freaking you out? Well, I can understand that. Jesus freaked out the disciples. As if the winds weren’t enough of a problem for them, a ghost appears. It was Jesus walking on water to get to them but all they saw was a ghost.
It’s usually easy to see God much clearly when we are going through good situations. Because we are used to seeing Him that way. Like the disciples, they had been with Jesus and seen Him do many amazing things to show them who He is and what He can do. But walking on water was new to them, and apparently only a ghost could do so. It’s no different with us, we often get overly worried and scared when we see Jesus working in our lives to draw us closer to Him through unpleasant circumstances.
At that moment, we are seeing Jesus as a ghost. Let’s take time to view the storms we go through with the understanding that God uses the best ways to draw close to us and at the same time show of His greatness. And though they may not always be pleasant and expected, let’s always remember Jesus’ words to the disciples “Take courage it is I, don’t be afraid”. At the end we would have matured in faith take steps toward Him in ways that only He could have given us the power to do, through His life-giving word.
